MLB Recap: Brewers Claim Victory in 11th Inning with Joey Ortiz’s Winning Hit

Joey Ortiz’s timely walk-off single with one out in the 11th inning secured a 7-6 victory for the Milwaukee Brewers against the visiting New York Yankees in the opener of their three-game series.
Owen Miller, serving as a pinch runner, advanced to third base on Brice Turang’s leadoff flyout in the 11th against Michael Tonkin (1-3), who recently joined the Yankees after being claimed on waivers from the Mets. Ortiz then connected with the game-winning hit to left field.
The Yankees missed an opportunity to score in the top of the 11th when pinch runner Jahmai Jones was thrown out while attempting to score from third on a one-out comebacker to the mound.
Giancarlo Stanton broke the tie in the 10th inning with a pinch-hit RBI double, giving the Yankees a brief 6-5 lead. However, the Brewers responded in the bottom half as William Contreras advanced to third on a passed ball, followed by Willy Adames’ RBI single to tie the game.
