TOWN OF WALLKILL – Term limits for the Wallkill Town Board and supervisor will be on the ballot in November following approval by the board.

If approved by the voters, council members and supervisor could serve no more than four two-year terms.

Councilman Mark Coyne has concerns about the proposal.

“If you are going to term limit a person out who is well liked and does a good job and replace that person with somebody who is just there because the party said there is an open seat and the other party doesn’t have somebody to put in there, it’s not good for the town; it’s not good for the residents,” he said.

Coyne also said it is “not wise” to make the term limits retroactive. He believes those should take effect in the next town election cycle in 2028.
