MID-HUDSON – From one end of the region to the other, heavy rains caused flooding, that in some cases, resulted in roads being closed.

Some communities like the Village of Liberty declared a local state of emergency because of the flooding.

In Livingston Manor, the Willowemoc Creek looked more like a river as it overflowed its banks and flowed past the Rockland School District complex. Some people evacuated from low-lying areas of Livingston Manor.

In Spring Valley, vehicles were partially underwater in the Memorial Park parking lot and in Wesley Hills, a few miles away, lightning struck the front of a house at 18 Holland Lane.

Monsey Fire Department Captain Gary Rothchild said flames shot out from the area when the lightning struck, but there was no interior damage to the home and no injuries.

On Tuesday evening, Chestnut Lane between Route 9W and Dogwood Lane in the Town of Newburgh was blocked because of downed trees and utility wires.
