PUTNAM COUNTY- Five members of the Class of 2026 received $500 scholarships from Putnam Sheriff Brian Hess in recognition of their academic achievement, leadership, character, perseverance, and community service.

The quintet includes Ofelia Isabel Martinez Esquivez of Brewster High School, Dominic Piazza from Carmel High School, Marisa Peters from Haldane High School in Cold Spring, Matthew Conelli of Mahopac High School, and Lubriza Alfaro Camejo from Putnam Valley High School.

Announcing the awards, Hess said the scholarship program was created to “recognize students who lead with integrity, work hard, and make a positive impact on those around them.” He added, “These five students represent the very best of our community, and we are proud to support them as they begin the next chapter of their lives.”

Putnam’s chief law enforcement officer told the recipients: “I have no doubt that you will continue to make a positive impact wherever life takes you. Never stop believing in yourself, continue serving others with integrity, and always remember that the future is brightest for those willing to work hard and lead by example. It is an honor to recognize you as the inaugural recipients of the Brian Hess Scholarship Fund. We are proud to invest in your future and look forward to seeing all that you carry out in the years ahead.”
