POUGHKEEPSIE – Jamar Cummings, the City of Poughkeepsie Chamberlain and Poughkeepsie City School District (PCSD) board member, has been elected to lead the PCSD school board. Cummings was selected to serve as the board president last week.
“The community can expect a Board of Education that is collaborative, transparent, and focused on putting students first,” Cummings told Mid-Hudson News.
In the most recent school board elections, Cummings campaigned with two city residents who were both successful in their bids. Stacey MacDonald and Richard Distel, a planner for the City of Poughkeepsie, have joined Cummings on the board.
“This board is made up of trustees with deep roots in the City of Poughkeepsie who are personally invested in the success of our schools and our community,” Cummings said. “We understand that the decisions we make today will shape the future of our students and our city, and we’re committed to working together to achieve meaningful results, including improving student achievement and increasing graduation rates.”
