KINGSTON – Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji wants to establish a public integrity unit to ensure that officials are held to the highest standards of conduct.
Nneji said he handled two recent cases involving police officers from New Paltz and Saugerties
“It’s important for us to dedicate the energy, the resources and the effort to maximize the chances of holding them accountable and demonstrating to the community that, ‘young man, you are responsible for your conduct, you’ve got to be accountable. Young woman, you are responsible; you have to be accountable,” he said. “Because this person is a public official, he or she should not be held any less accountable. In fact, if anything, as public officials, we have to be held to a higher standard and more accountable.”
Noting that he has requested such an office in the past, said one is needed as soon as possible to address concerns.
