POUGHKEEPSIE – The unofficial results for the Dutchess County Legislature District 15 seat on Tuesday night showed incumbent Republican Rob Faust leading political newcomer Kyle Fendrich by six votes.  The district covers a large portion of the Town of Wappinger, and Faust received 2,244 votes between early voting and Tuesday at the polls.  Fendrich collected 2,238 in the same manner.

Sources have told Mid-Hudson News that some mail-in ballots were counted on Wednesday at the Dutchess County Board of Elections, and Fendrich picked up five more votes, leaving Faust with a one-vote lead in the race.  About 100 mail-in ballots still need to be opened and counted before a winner can be declared.  That process could take up to 12 days.

With the Democrats unofficially flipping one more district in their favor on Tuesday, they have a commanding majority of 16 members to the 9 Republican seats.  If Fendrich wins the battle for District 15, the Democrats will have a veto-proof supermajority that could override any vetoes handed down by Republican County Executive Sue Serino.
