Warren Buffett is postponing his usual mid-year multibillion-dollar donation to the Gates Foundation while awaiting the results of an independent review examining the foundation’s past connections to Jeffrey Epstein, according to a report.

The decision comes as the Gates Foundation faces increased scrutiny over Chairman Bill Gates’ previous association with Epstein, a convicted sex offender. The controversy intensified after the release of emails showed communications between Epstein and members of the Gates Foundation’s staff.

Gates Foundation CEO Mark Suzman launched an external review to examine the organization’s historical interactions and involvement with Epstein. The findings are expected to be released during the summer, and Buffett is waiting for the outcome before deciding on his next donation.

Buffett’s donation decision could be delayed until later this year, possibly until the release of his annual Thanksgiving letter, according to people familiar with his plans.

The billionaire investor, who serves as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, has donated more than $47 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway stock to the Gates Foundation over the past two decades. His contributions have made him one of the foundation’s largest supporters.

The review comes during a period of renewed attention on Bill Gates’ relationship with Epstein following the release of government documents. Gates has not been accused of wrongdoing and has previously said he regrets having any association with Epstein. He has also denied witnessing any criminal behavior connected to Epstein’s abuse.

The Gates Foundation has said the review is intended to provide a clearer understanding of the organization’s past interactions and ensure transparency regarding its history.

Buffett’s decision to delay the donation highlights the broader impact of the controversy as major philanthropic organizations face increasing pressure to examine their partnerships, leadership relationships, and accountability standards.
