YORKTOWN- Motorists traversing the Taconic State Parkway near the Putnam-Westchester line in Yorktown learned the hard way Thursday that they must pull into an adjoining lane when crews are working.

Members of the New York State Police Troop K Traffic Incident Management Unit, in partnership with the New York State Department of Transportation, conducted an Operation Hard Hat enforcement detail where Department of Transportation crews were performing guide rail repairs.

During the three-hour enforcement, troopers issued 64 citations for speeding, violations for Move Over Law, and other traffic offenses.

The speed limit along the TSP is 55 mph and Troop K Public Information Officer Trooper Krystal Paolicelli said the highest speed seen during the detail was a motorcycle traveling 90 miles per hour through the work zone.

Operation Hard Hat is a statewide initiative designed to make highway work zones safer by reducing reckless and distracted driving. Its goal is to protect road crews, emergency responders, and motorists passing through active work areas.
