PEEKSKILL- One week after two Putnam Valley High School siblings died in a house fire in Cortlandt Manor, a 15-year-old boy died from injuries suffered in a fire at his Peekskill home.

Firefighters from Peekskill, assisted by crews from Putnam Valley and Continental Village, responded to the two-story wood-frame house on High Street and found flames coming from the upper-floor windows.

After initial reports that people were trapped inside, firefighters quickly searched the building and found the unconscious boy on the second floor. They removed him from the home, performed CPR, and rushed the teenager to New York Presbyterian-Hudson Valley Hospital, where he died a short time later.

The cause of the fire is under investigation in cooperation with the Westchester County Cause & Origin Team and the City of Peekskill Police Department.

Peekskill FD Chief James Seymour IV said the fire started in a second-floor bedroom, but the cause is still under investigation.

American Red Cross regional communications manager Frederic Klein said the fire resulted in three people being registered for emergency assistance.

“Our hearts go out to the friends, family and neighbors of those impacted by the fire,” he said adding: “The American Red Cross registered three people for emergency assistance such as financial aid and other recovery support.”

Meanwhile, Peekskill Police Chief Adam Renwick said the investigation is still ongoing and the department is unable to comment on the cause of the fire.

“I can confirm that the deceased was a 15-year-old resident of the home,” said Renwick who added: “Out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time.”

The Peekskill fire follows the tragic loss of 17-year-old Alina Toone and her 15-year-old sibling Jeremiah Toone who died on May 27.
