A newly unsealed court filing has revealed additional forensic details in the killing of Charlie Kirk, including findings that a bullet fragment recovered during the autopsy was identified as consistent with a .30 caliber class round associated with the rifle allegedly used by the accused shooter.

According to reporting by The Daily Mail, the disclosure stems from an ATF summary included in court documents that were unsealed by a judge. The filing describes one bullet jacket fragment recovered from the autopsy as a “.30-caliber class deformed/damaged bullet jacket fragment,” with four additional lead fragments also collected as evidence.

The forensic findings add to ongoing examination of ballistic evidence in the case against Tyler Robinson, 22, who faces capital murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Prosecutors allege Robinson used a Mauser 98 .30-06 rifle in the attack.

Earlier defense filings had stated that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was unable to definitively match the bullet recovered during the autopsy to the firearm tied to Robinson. The newly disclosed materials provide additional characterization of the bullet fragment, identifying it within the .30 caliber class.

Robinson has been charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated murder, reckless discharge of a firearm causing bodily injury, obstruction of justice related to concealing the weapon and disposing of clothing, and witness tampering. One charge alleges the commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

A prior court filing submitted by the defense had emphasized the lack of a conclusive ballistic match. The latest unsealed documents expand on the forensic record, detailing the classification of the recovered bullet material.

Additional evidence referenced in investigative records includes a handwritten note attributed to Robinson, in which he allegedly stated, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I took it.” Authorities have also reported recovering DNA evidence and a palm print from the scene at the Losee Center building.

The case remains pending as legal proceedings continue, with the newly disclosed forensic details expected to factor into arguments from both the prosecution and defense.
