Justin Sun, one of the most prominent investors in a cryptocurrency venture tied to Donald Trump and his family, has publicly accused the company of misleading investors and undermining core principles of decentralization.

In a series of posts on social media, Sun—who has invested tens of millions of dollars in the Trump-affiliated crypto platform World Liberty Financial—claimed the firm has established a system that gives insiders sweeping control over user accounts, including the ability to freeze funds without warning.

Allegations of Account Freezes and Investor Losses

Sun alleged that his own account has been frozen since September, preventing him from selling or moving his holdings. According to blockchain analysis, the value of those assets has dropped sharply during that time, declining by tens of millions of dollars.

The entrepreneur said he had invested at least $75 million into the company’s token, at one point becoming its largest backer. He expressed frustration that the platform’s practices contradict the decentralized ethos that underpins much of the cryptocurrency industry.

“This is the opposite of decentralization,” Sun wrote, describing the system as a “trap door marketed as an open door.”

World Liberty Financial quickly rejected Sun’s claims, accusing him of misconduct that justified the restrictions placed on his account. In a strongly worded response, the company suggested it may pursue legal action.

“We have the contracts. We have the evidence. We have the truth,” the firm said, signaling a potential courtroom battle between one of its most high-profile investors and its leadership.

Sun’s dispute with the company adds another layer of controversy to his own history. In 2023, the Securities and Exchange Commission charged him with fraud related to crypto trading and promotional activities. The case was later resolved after he agreed to pay a $10 million penalty.

Token Performance and Market Concerns

The controversy comes as the value of World Liberty’s primary token, WLFI, has experienced a steep decline. Since mid-2025, the token has lost a significant portion of its value, reflecting broader volatility in the cryptocurrency market.

At the same time, the company’s stablecoin, USD1, has gained traction and is among the more widely used tokens designed to maintain a fixed value relative to the U.S. dollar. Its adoption has been boosted by partnerships and listings on major exchanges, including Binance and Kraken.

Despite this, concerns persist about the company’s overall financial stability and governance practices.

Loan Deal Raises Additional Red Flags

Investor anxiety intensified after reports revealed that World Liberty borrowed $75 million from another crypto platform, Dolomite, using a portion of its own token supply as collateral. The arrangement has drawn scrutiny, particularly as the token’s value continues to fluctuate.

Critics argue that if the token price falls further, the company could face pressure to provide additional collateral or risk financial instability. World Liberty has sought to reassure investors, stating that it is not at risk of liquidation and has already repaid part of the loan.

Financial experts say the structure of the deal raises legitimate concerns. Some have noted that similar arrangements in traditional financial markets would likely attract regulatory scrutiny due to potential risks for investors.

Political and Ethical Questions Intensify

The dispute has also reignited political debate over the Trump family’s involvement in cryptocurrency ventures. Critics, particularly among Democrats, have argued that such projects could benefit from Trump’s political influence, raising concerns about conflicts of interest.

Financial disclosures indicate that Trump has reported tens of millions of dollars in income linked to World Liberty Financial, further fueling scrutiny. The administration and associated entities have consistently denied any wrongdoing or conflicts.

In addition to World Liberty’s offerings, Trump has also been linked to the launch of another token, TRUMP, which initially surged in value before experiencing a sharp decline. A similar pattern has been observed with a separate token associated with Melania Trump, though she has denied direct involvement in its management.

Broader Implications for the Crypto Industry

The clash between Sun and World Liberty highlights ongoing challenges within the cryptocurrency sector, including transparency, governance, and investor protection. While many platforms promote decentralization and user control, disputes like this underscore how much authority can still reside with company insiders.

As the crypto market continues to evolve, high-profile conflicts involving major investors and politically connected ventures are likely to draw increased attention from regulators, lawmakers, and the public alike.
