WAPPINGER — The Town of Wappinger celebrated the grand reopening of its renovated and expanded senior center at Town Hall recently, marking a major investment in the area’s growing older population.
The project was funded in part by a $75,000 grant from Dutchess County. The upgrades modernized the facility with a new kitchen, updated restrooms, new flooring and lighting, and a larger layout designed to support increased community programming and events.
Town Supervisor Joseph Cavaccini said the improvements reflect a commitment to expanding services for residents. “When I first took office, our senior program had about 130 members,” Cavaccini said. “Today, we serve more than 300 active members with more programming, more activities, and more opportunities for connection than ever before.”
Membership in the town’s senior programs has more than doubled in recent years. Offerings are now spread across several locations under the newly established Division of Senior Enrichment.
A portion of the renovation was completed by the town’s Buildings and Grounds Department. Cavaccini credited the department’s staff for their craftsmanship and dedication to the project. “These improvements reflect the town’s ongoing commitment to ensuring Wappinger remains a place where residents of all ages can live, connect, and thrive,” Cavaccini said.
