CONTINENTAL VILLAGE- An alert neighbor and a rapid response by members of the Continental Village and Garrison Fire Departments averted a calamity for a family residing on Sprout Brook Road in Continental Village.

The Putnam 9-1-1 Dispatch Center received a call around 8 p.m. reporting a structure fire in the wood-frame home.

Firefighters arrived minutes later and observed a neighbor using a garden hose to spray water through a broken window in the front door.

The blaze was extinguished inside the residence and crews determined flames had not spread to adjoining areas of the home before returning to quarters 90 minutes later.

Members of the Putnam Fire Investigation Team and Westchester Cause and Origin Team were summoned to investigate the cause which remains under investigation.
