KINGSTON – The blue wave that saw several Republican public officials in the Hudson Valley fall to Democratic challengers was the result of the “visceral blowback” on the current administration, Ulster County Democratic Chairman Andy Cowan says.

He says he will continue to strengthen and unify his party.

“My goal as the party chair is to really bring us together and to bring in the fringes and to focus on moving the ball down the court,” he said.

The blue wave that saw both houses of Congress flip from Republican to Democrat was also seen in the Hudson Valley.

In the Ulster County Legislature, Republican Jason Kovacs lost his District 3 seat to Democrat Kate Leon, and Republican Herb Litts III lost his District 9 seat to Democrat Amy Dooley.

Republican-Conservative Congressman Michael Lawler (R, NY-17) lost to Democrat Cait Conley; Republican State Senator Rob Rolison fell to Democrat Lisa Kaul; and the long-time Republican Wallkill Town Clerk lost to Democrat Clifton Alan Baker.
