KINGSTON – The New York City Department of Environmental Protection, which operates the reservoirs and massive tunnels that deliver water to the City of New York, wants to tie into Ulster County’s public safety system.

The County Legislature’s Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee approved the agreement on Tuesday.

County Emergency Services Commissioner Everett Erichsen said the agreement would provide much better interoperability between the county’s emergency services and the New York City system.

“All law enforcement agencies except for one are currently participating in, also fire and EMS connect to our computer-aided dispatch system and allows for additional interoperability. So, they are looking to join onto our system,” he said.

The community unanimously approved the agreement, which now goes to the full legislature for its approval.
