Jill Wilkins

TOWN OF WALLKILL – Longtime Wallkill resident Jill Wilkins has thrown her had into the ring as the Republican candidate for Wallkill town supervisor.

Wilkins, who recently retired as a real estate agent, said she is running to maintain the town’s “country living with city conveniences,” which is what attracts people to the town.

“Aesthetically we are beginning to look a bit much like a storehouse, and we don’t need cannabis shops on every other corner. We don’t need big box warehouses; we don’t need a lot of gas stations. We need some those things, but have to be strategically places so that we can maintain the landscape of Hudson Valley,” she said.

Wilkins is active in the community from being a minister along with her husband, to operating a local food pantry and assisting the community wherever she can.

She will face Democrat Frank DenDanto III who is in his second term as supervisor, a post in which he served six years ago before losing two elections, but recapturing the post last September.

Wilkins was born in England and spent her youth between both countries, gaining her US citizenship some 40 years ago.

This may be her first political effort; however, she grew up in an international governmental environment as her father, a native of Barbados, was a United Nations ambassador.
