HUDSON VALLEY- Congressman Mike Lawler’s opposition in his reelection bid is down to six now that former FBI intelligence official John Sullivan announced his withdrawal from the race.
Sullivan, a resident of Rockland County, reported Friday: “After careful reflection, I have decided to end my campaign for the Democratic nomination. From the very beginning, this campaign was never about me. It was about the community. It was about listening to one another, respecting different experiences, and working toward real change rooted in fairness and integrity.”
Sullivan charged: “Too often our politicians are handpicked by party leaders, billionaires, big donors, or the well-connected. Regardless of political party, they go to Washington and never deliver for the communities they serve. It’s time to end that cycle. It’s time to get engaged, speak out, and vote. It’s time to remind those in power and those who are seeking it that public service is just that, service.”
He also urged voters in the 17th Congressional District that includes all of Putnam and Rockland in addition to sections of Dutchess and Westchester to make an informed choice in November.
Others still seeking the nomination include Westchester resident Cait Conley, a former national security official; Rockland County Legislator Beth Davidson; journalist Mike Sacks, of Cortlandt; John Cappello a former Air Force officer; tech executive Peter Chatzky, of Briarcliff Manor and Tarrytown Village Trustee Effie Phillips-Staley.
