Tim Mitts will once again run for State Senate in the 42nd District as a Conservative and he intendeds to “WALK THE TALK” and “TALK THE TALK” during the campaign

That includes some tough talk as Mitts came out swinging at Democratic incumbent James Skoufis. A Republican has yet to enter the 2026 race.

“We have repeatedly re-elected Senator Skoufis as a New York State Senator,” Mitts said. “Yet we are no better off than they were when he was first elected. In fact, by 2030, New York state will have a $30 billion deficit. As a landlord and business person I’m very concerned about affordability, outrageous tax increases, public safety, local jobs, healthcare access, and restoring trust in government as well as personally investing in efforts to preserve our community, infrastructures, and historic buildings. I look forward to unveiling my multi-point plan that will address those issues.”

In response to Mitts, Skoufis said: “I’ll always be committed to making Orange County more affordable and safer for all the communities I represent. I’m proud of my record and I look forward to having a spirited debate with Mr. Mitts in the weeks and months ahead.”

Skoufis easily defeated Republican Dorey Houle by a margin of approximately 73,420 votes compared to 54,614 in the 2024 Senate race. Mitts ran as a Conservative, receiving about 6,694 votes. Mitts defeated Houle in the Conservative primary in June of that year.

A significant number of Mitts’ votes in the Conservative primary came from residents in the Town of Palm Tree. He was criticized by Orange County Conservative leadership for changing his party affiliation from Republican to Conservative on February 14th of 2024. Mitts said he does not expected to be endorsed by the Conservative party again this year.

District 42 covers nearly all of Orange County, including all of the southern and western portions of the county.
