YONKERS – SPCA Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit and Yonkers Police detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying a dog and the person who abandoned it with its throat slashed.
The one-year-old tan mixed breed, now named Frankie, was captured on camera before he was dumped at 44 Saw Mill Rover Road near Oakland cemetery on November 21, 2025.
Frankie was rushed to a local veterinary hospital with a deeply infected laceration to his neck and throat, exposing underlying tissue.
His injuries required a two-hour emergency surgery.
“Without proper veterinary care, this sweet dog would have likely succumbed to his injuries,” said Shannon Laukhuf, SPCA Westchester’s chief Executive officer.
Frankie also appeared to be neglected as he was extremely underweight, she said.
A $1,000 reward is being offered by the New York State Humane Association leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Confidential Animal Cruelty Hotline at 914-941-7797.
