Mexican authorities arrested a Cuban man, identified as Remigio ‘N’, on Thursday in the state of Quintana Roo, with alleged links to the Sinaloa Cartel.
According to the report from the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the Cuban will be charged with crimes against health and possession of a firearm for the exclusive use of the Army.
At the time of the arrest, the man was handling several clear plastic bags that contained what appeared to be marijuana.
The authorities proceeded to inspect him and confiscated a backpack, 72 transparent plastic bags, 81 small transparent plastic bags with crystal-like fragments, and $240.00 pesos in cash (13,500 dollars).
In addition, ten 5.56 mm caliber long gun cartridges, a cell phone, a black short firearm with a silver grip, a black magazine, and 13 9mm caliber cartridges were seized from him.
The Secretariat added that the detainee was “a priority target of the State’s crime atlas due to his link with an international Cuban-American criminal cell, related to the trafficking of undocumented immigrants, affiliated with the Sinaloa cartel.”
He also has a criminal record for theft in the state of Florida and is being monitored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The Sinaloa Cartel, founded in the 1980s, is one of the most powerful and violent criminal organizations in the world, known for its dominance in international drug trafficking.
The United States declared the cartel a terrorist group last year. @ADNCuba
