New Mexico — ING Puts $500 Million Data Center Loan Portfolio Up for Sale Amid AI Market Turmoil
Dutch banking group ING is reportedly seeking buyers for a portfolio of data center loans worth approximately $500 million, according to a Bloomberg News report cited by Reuters.
Among the loans included in the portfolio is a $25 million financing arrangement tied to a major data center development in New Mexico. The facility is part of the Stargate artificial intelligence infrastructure initiative, which is backed by OpenAI, SoftBank Group and Oracle.
The portfolio also contains financing linked to data center operators Vantage Data Centers and CyrusOne.
The report said ING is offering 12 loans through a competitive bidding process. Potential buyers are required to submit bids of at least $10 million, with November 19 established as the submission deadline.
ING declined to provide a comment when approached by Reuters regarding the reported sale.
The planned transaction comes as technology-related investments face increasing pressure from financial markets. A widespread selloff has hit semiconductor manufacturers and data center companies as investors reassess the financial exposure associated with the enormous spending required to build AI infrastructure.
The market downturn wiped out $3 trillion in value from companies listed on the S&P 500. Meanwhile, data center operators Applied Digital, Cipher Digital and IREN each experienced share-price declines of more than 14%.
ING’s reported decision to market the loan portfolio underscores the financing dynamics surrounding the rapidly growing data center industry, as financial institutions and investors reconsider their exposure to the sector amid heightened market uncertainty.
