People from all walks of life protested in Brewster on Saturday

BREWSTER- Brewster United for Immigrants joined members of the Hudson Valley Patriots for Immigration Reform Saturday outside the Brewster Metro North Railroad Station demanding that ICE agents refrain from terrorizing the half square mile village by ‘kidnapping’ Hispanic men from the community.

The more than 100 in attendance were informed that a “daily worker” had been snatched by ICE at 5:30 a.m. Saturday while on his way to work.

“We can’t be silent about such tragedies,” was the rallying call.

Hudson Valley Patriots for Immigration Reform framed its demand around ICE arrests carried out without warrants and what the group called illegal operations, focusing attention on immigration enforcement practices in the local community.

The group called for an end to warrantless arrests.  It criticized what it described as illegal operations by ICE.  By placing warrant requirements at the center of its message, the group directed its criticism at the means and authority under which arrests occur, rather than issuing a broader appeal about immigration policy or immigrant support.
