President Donald Trump has announced the launch of the U.S. 250 Freedom Tour, a yearlong, coast-to-coast celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The tour, inspired by the post–World War II Friendship and Merci Trains, is designed to travel to all 50 states in 50 weeks, bringing free public events to communities across the country.
“To help carry out these exciting plans, we’ve created a new public-private partnership called Freedom 250,” Trump said in a YouTube video released Dec. 18. He described the effort as a national celebration of “the patriotism, pride, and pioneering spirit of America,” while also aiming to “lay the groundwork for the next 250 years.”
The tour will be led by Freedom 250, a nonpartisan organization working in partnership with the White House Task Force 250, federal agencies, and the America250 Commission. Trump promised the celebration would be unlike anything Americans have experienced before.
“This will be a time like you’ve never had in your lives,” he said.
The Freedom 250 tour is set to kick off Jan. 9, 2026, in Mesquite, Nevada, with free concerts by Shenandoah and Natasha Owens, followed by a fireworks display. According to the tour’s organizers, the goal is to reach Americans in every corner of the country.
“Whether you’re in a rural town or a major city, this celebration is coming to you,” the tour’s website states.
Planned attractions include a traveling Freedom Village, live performances and historical presentations, and a road-trip–style video series featuring the tour’s mascot, Liberty the Beagle.
“This is an opportunity to share the remarkable story of America, honor our heroes, and celebrate the innovation, creativity, and resilience of the American people,” said executive tour director Tony Griffith. “From our farmers and ranchers to the Space Coast and the entertainment industry, everyone will have an opportunity to participate in this historic tour.”
The Freedom 250 tour is one of several large-scale events Trump has announced to commemorate the nation’s semiquincentennial. During the summer, Washington, D.C., will host the “Great American State Fair” on the National Mall, featuring pavilions and exhibits from all 50 states.
“You’ll never see anything like it,” Trump said of the planned event.
The president also announced the Patriot Games, scheduled for the fall of next year. The competition will feature one man and one woman representing each state and U.S. territory in a series of athletic contests. Trump emphasized that male athletes will not compete in women’s events.
In addition, Trump said he intends to move forward with building the National Garden of American Heroes and constructing a triumphal arch in Washington modeled after Paris’ Arc de Triomphe, further adding to the planned anniversary commemorations.
Together, the events are meant to create a yearlong national celebration highlighting American history, culture, and unity as the country approaches its 250th birthday.
