WASHINGTON – The military’s blowing up and boats in the Caribbean, purported to be running drugs, particularly the September attack, was nothing more than murder, Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18) said.

He was particularly concerned with the September strike where two men were clinging to the wreckage of the boat and then were killed.

Ryan, who is a member of the Armed Services Committee, briefed members about the incident.

“They did not have proof on that strike that there were definitely drugs on that boat,” he said. “So, I think we are doing what I think are extrajudicial killing, murder essentially, without any due process, any definitive proof.”

Ryan said if there are drug traffickers, they need to be arrested, prosecuted and held accountable, and we need to take that very seriously. “But indiscriminately striking boats like this is not the way to do it.”
