WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States and Qatar highlighted major advances in security, economic cooperation, and regional diplomacy during the seventh U.S.-Qatar Strategic Dialogue, held in Washington and led by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
According to joint statements, both governments reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening a long-term partnership aimed at promoting regional peace, counterterrorism efforts, and economic growth. Discussions covered key priorities including Gaza, Syria, Iran, and broader regional stability in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.
Officials emphasized Qatar’s role in supporting President Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan and mediating regional conflicts. Both sides also pledged to enhance defense cooperation, including upgrades to Al-Udeid Air Base and expanded joint training to improve Gulf security and NATO interoperability.
Economic ties featured prominently, with more than $240 billion in commercial agreements first announced during President Trump’s visit to Qatar in May. Those deals — across aviation, technology, and energy — were highlighted again as anchor investments driving U.S. job growth and supporting Qatar’s long-term economic diversification.
Examples include major aircraft purchases by Qatar Airways, energy infrastructure development, and quantum technology partnerships. Officials said these joint investments will continue to generate economic benefits into the next decade.
The dialogue also underscored continued collaboration on counterterrorism, law enforcement, and aviation security ahead of the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, which the United States will co-host. Cultural and educational exchanges — including new cooperation between the Smithsonian Institution and Qatar Museums — were also announced.
Both nations described the partnership as an enduring pillar of regional stability and confirmed that the next round of the Strategic Dialogue will take place in Doha in 2026.
