CARMEL- Putnam’s annual Chanukah menorah lighting ceremonies get underway this afternoon in Carmel in conjunction with the Hamlet of Carmel Civic Association’s Holiday on the Lake celebration.

The candelabra located at the intersection of Routes 6 and 52 will be illuminated 4:30 p.m. by Rabbi Avi Korer of Putnam Chabad followed by ceremonies in Brewster on Monday at 6 p.m. on Route 312 at North Brewster Road across from the Brewster Fire Department sub-station and in Cold Spring on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the foot of Main Street in the vicinity of the Depot Restaurant.

Chanukah songs, potato latkes, donuts and hot apple cider will be available for those attending.

Rabbi Korer reminds residents: “In the dark times, Chanukah reminds us that we can bring light into the world while increasing light. It takes a single candle and each night for eight consecutive nights, Jews bring more and more light into the world. May it be that way for all of us regardless of our religious beliefs.
