LOCH SHELDRAKE – Santa and his elves greeted people as they left the Outreach Dinner at New Hope Community in Loch Sheldrake with a bag full of food and a ShopRite gift card.
CEO Karen Russell said that this is the eighth year that they have been doing this.
“It’s just our way to say, you know, sometimes we know that the holiday season can be a little bit difficult,” she said. “So we give each, you know, card that comes through a meal for four people in the family.
The bags are filled with everything a family of four needs.
“Families receiving biscuits and rolls, chicken wings, oranges, and a chicken fettuccine meal that’s going to be going to every family member. And then a ShopRite gift card so that they can also go there and get anything else that they might need for a meal,” she said.
In these troubling times of USDA cutbacks, feeding people is especially rewarding.
“I think that if we can find some little glimmer each day of something that keeps us going, something that we can look towards, then it’s going to get everybody through the difficult times,” Russell said.
