This World War II drama is highly binge-worthy.
Hey everybody, I'm Adam Martinetti,
and of all the binge-worthy things,
this is definitely one of them.
Collider's own Samuel Williamson wants everyone to know
that HBO's Band of Brothers has just made its way
onto Netflix, and it is absolutely worth
binging all the way through.
Originally aired in September 2001,
Band of Brothers is considered one of the earliest examples
of prestige television.
Up there with HBO's Oz and The Sopranos,
Band of Brothers was also released around that same time.
Samuel points out that up until the release
of Band of Brothers, you weren't going to see
all aspects of war on television.
For instance, in Mashed, you saw the more interpersonal
side of things that were going on,
set against the backdrop of war,
and with the series Combat, they didn't have the budget
for large set pieces that would capture the scale of war
and the gargantuan battles that took place.
With 1998's Saving Private Ryan,
with Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg,
that forever changed the war film genre,
influencing every war film made since.
Hanks and Spielberg had a significant part
in making Band of Brothers as producers,
as well as Hanks writing the pilot episode
of the miniseries.
Following the story of Easy Company,
the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment
of the 101st Airborne Division,
we follow the soldiers through 10 episodes,
from basic training all the way to the end of World War II.
Samuel says that the show should be binged
for a number of reasons, including to be able
to keep track of the vast cast,
without forgetting who anyone is,
which he says could happen if you leave too long
between episodes.
Samuel also says that the world will never have
a World War II TV drama that makes as great an impact
as Band of Brothers again.
