Hey, what is so funny?
I remember the song.
You remember the song?
Oh, yeah, tell us the song, Gavin.
I don't have it.
Oh, thank God.
Got to get away, zoom, zoom, zoom.
Oh, my God, it is.
I'm just moving on.
Girl, let's play it like it.
Listen, Houston, H-Town, H-Time, depending on where you're from,
it's all Houston, my city.
And I want to give you guys a tour.
So I'm going to take you to some of my favorite spots,
some of my favorite restaurants, places to shop.
And of course, I want to take you to where I grew up,
where my career started.
I want to introduce you to some of my family,
some of my framily.
You know how that goes.
Where are we going?
I'm going to feed you, because I already know how it goes.
But we're going to have some fun today.
I want you guys to enjoy this tour.
Get to see another side of Houston.
Let's go.
Hey, yes, indeed.
We're the tour guides with the team.
We're going to push y'all up on game on how things really
go down in Houston.
This is my friend, Kimmy.
We have been friends since we were, like, 13?
13, 14.
She knows me better than anybody.
So come on.
Hop in with us.
We're going to take y'all around.
I already know.
Don't you even start.
Where are we going?
I'm going to feed you, because I already
know how to explain it.
Thank god.
So you already know where we're going to go.
Because you got the worst habit of being like,
oh, we're going to go eat.
But let me stop here, here, here, here, and here.
I understand that, but we got to eat, too,
to have the things to do.
I just said I was going to take you.
OK, cool.
I literally just, that's how I start a conversation.
Yes, sir.
Where the babies at?
They ain't here.
You know nobody want to see you.
I want to see the babies.
Where the babies at?
That's what happens when you have kids.
You no longer exist.
What's happening, sis?
I'm ready to eat.
Building Wakanda one print at a time.
We are at the breakfast club with the can.
That's the breakfast club.
Hey, get them orders out.
Get them orders out.
Here we go.
I'm going to do a big line.
Good morning.
They go a little loud.
Hey.
Oh, welcome.
Hi, baby.
How are you, darling?
Good.
You want the grilled catfish?
That's fine.
I'll get you.
Fine.
How you want your eggs, Rachel?
Scrambled.
You want to add white?
See, this ain't my healthy day.
Give me two minute waiting.
No.
You want chicken?
Yes, indeed.
Scrambled or regular?
You want potatoes or grits?
I want grits.
You want cheese on the grits?
Yes, I want cheese on the grits.
You like biscuits or toast?
And I want my biscuit grilled.
Grilled.
You got an ear with me?
You know it.
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
Hey.
We got two catfish cheese grits.
That'll be me.
Look at this.
This, I got my fried catfish.
I got my grits with cheese, a little puddle of the butter.
And I'm going to work that off later.
And we got the scrambled eggs with cheese and a grilled biscuit with jelly.
The perfection, y'all.
Are we going to tell a real story about how we met?
It's not really juicy.
My grandmother and his mom worked at the same school.
Yeah.
For summer school.
Let me cut to Chase.
Toya had a crush on me.
What do you mean?
She was running around, chasing after me.
I noticed that was a lot of y'all.
She was always asking her grandma to...
You never heard the story.
That's the only reason she wanted to come to school.
First of all.
And I was like, hey, we just got to be brothers and sisters.
Let me be very clear on what actually happened here.
Both he and his brother.
It take a minute to make up a good lie.
No.
Like, for real, used to chase us around at school and almost terrorize us.
But you know what?
I realized the older I got, right?
My mom always said, when dudes get crushed on you, they like,
hit you and talk about you and chase you.
And we were like...
I was too cool for that.
We were too young for that, first of all.
I was too cute for that.
Secondly, that was a whole lie.
And we were like, for real, brother and sister.
Giving up one time for the North side.
No, for the South.
He ended up on the South.
But that was on that North.
Between food and music, the North side brought Houston where it is.
The lies.
Come on, now.
You've been to Houston?
What the North side ain't done for...
Anyways, don't talk about what the North side has done to a South side.
Anyways, if you know anything about Houston, you know The Breakfast Club.
He is like a staple in Houston.
There is nothing that would stop me from coming to The Breakfast Club.
If I'm on a diet, I get my catfish.
For real.
If I'm having my luncheon time days where I don't care, then I'm gonna go out and get
my fried catfish.
I'm one of the girls that has to go for grits on pepper and cheese and butter.
I'm not the sugar grits.
I mean, I just don't care about people that eat sugar grits.
I'm questioning our friendship at this point.
He has a whole name for his whatever he is.
What is he called?
It's called by Grinchman.
He's by Grinchman.
Grinch or Burchman.
Yes.
If I'm eating catfish and grits, then I want my grits savory.
Yes.
If I'm eating bacon and eggs, then I want my grits a little sweet.
Just a little bit.
I'm a cheese, salt, and pepper grit girl.
But I gotta know from y'all, do y'all want sugar on y'all grits?
How do you like your grits?
Please tell me in the comments below.
Y'all, so I knew that's why she fed my...
black butt.
Because she was going to have me out here in these shopping streets.
There's always going to be some purchases involved.
All day, every day.
Very clear.
Listen, but I did feed you.
Yes, and I appreciate it.
However...
Doesn't that make you want to shop and buy things?
But now my feet about to hurt because we about to be all up...
Your feet about to hurt, you gotta get like two things.
Mm-hmm.
Two things equals 20.
I need to grab just like two or three things.
Mm-hmm.
And then we can head out.
Mm-hmm.
We'll see.
I know because I'm ready to eat again.
And you got me out here in these streets.
I'm actually...
For real, let's go do that.
Best ice cream.
Okay, I'm down for that.
Like at least give me some ice cream while you shop.
Because I'm going to be for real not shopping.
That's the shopper.
Oh, I think my store's over there.
I got her ice cream.
She came through, y'all.
She's a happy person now.
I am.
She's a happy camper.
Now we can finish shopping and making our purchases.
Okay, guys.
We're here where it all started.
This is my elementary school, St. James School.
This is where I met Beyonce.
I was that kid who was super familiar with the school,
who knew everybody, who had been going there.
I've been going there since I was three years old.
On B's first day of school,
she just so happened to be sitting in my side seat.
And I pointed that out to the teacher.
And I said, that's what happened.
And I said, she seems to be misplaced.
She's in my seat.
And the teacher, Ms. Western, told me to go find me a seat.
And that, you know, I was late.
So I missed my spot.
Anywho, B and I ended up talking after class.
And, you know, over time became very familiar with each other.
She saw that I had a love for singing.
And she, you know, was doing star search.
But I was in a group with my cousins at the time.
So we were kind of both doing everything, you know.
So she asked me to come and audition for her father.
I was in Girl Scouts in this building.
And her father was parked right here in this circular drive.
And I came out to meet him.
And he had me, a few days later, audition for the group.
And I then became a part of something fresh.
Well, at the time, it was Girl Scouts.
And then it became something fresh once I became a part of the group.
So, you know, that's where it all started.
This is why you stay in school.
You never know who'll be sitting in your seat, okay?
You never know.
Good things happen at school.
Really, really, really cool things happen for me at St. James.
So I'd have to say, you know, your parents are right about that.
School is a good thing.
Hi, guys.
So I told you that I wanted to introduce you guys to some of the closest people in my life.
And bam, the guy we're about to meet literally has my heart.
He is one of the closest people to me, near and dear to me.
I've known him all his life.
And I'm about to pop in on him.
I'm about to pop in on him.
What's up, folks?
Got you.
Hey, y'all.
It's my brother, Gavin.
Say, what's up?
What's going on?
What's going down?
Yes, indeed.
This is his studio.
Completely owned by me and my partner, G-Luck and B-Dime.
That's what we go by.
GMB, that's what it stands for.
And we've had many studios all over the city, but this is the one I think we are.
Yeah, this is the one.
This one.
Look out.
You peaked the ceiling, bruh.
Little right roof.
So let me film y'all.
Sit down and have a chat.
Okay.
Kim just wanted some air time, I guess.
I love it.
I'm so proud of you.
Thank you.
Yes, indeed.
This is, I think, one of the best decisions he's ever made
because he is so gifted, talented in music.
He's produced records for pretty much every artist in the city almost.
He says I'm his worst client because I don't like when he tells me what to do.
Let me tell y'all a little secret.
Okay.
So right when I came out of the group and I was trying to figure out what it is I wanted to do
next, which at the time was absolutely nothing.
I just wanted to get my mind right.
And I didn't feel comfortable with my voice when I came out of the group because I'd been doing
one thing, which was singing soprano and covering just that bass.
And so my confidence was pretty shattered.
But I don't know.
I just felt like I don't want to sing no more.
If there was something else out there, maybe I could work at the mall.
I don't know.
Something that teenagers do.
That's what I wanted to do.
He really convinced me somehow to write a song.
He was like, you need to do what it is you love to do.
I don't know what came over me one day, but I decided to write a song.
And I went in the closet, which was the booth at the time.
But he had it.
Like he had the sound.
All right.
You know, we had the window, you know, we had the phone, the phone, you know what I'm saying?
We was makeshift studio.
Exactly.
And I recorded this song.
Yeah, I recorded this song.
I can't tell you a note from it because I don't remember.
But I think that experience made me say, OK, maybe I do want to sing.
Maybe I can.
Maybe I did some whatever.
So having my brother in the house with me after that, like, really helped to build my
confidence with him working in the other room and creating beats every day.
What is so funny?
I remember the song.
You remember the song?
Oh, yeah.
Tell us the song, Gavin.
I don't have it.
Oh, thank God.
Gotta get away.
Oh, my God.
I'm just moving on.
And here's the thing.
So my mom, like my mom, got a hold of the recording and started shopping it around,
but thank God for my brother, my mom and my family for like really in a time when I was
in a like total crisis mode.
Like they were still in their own way pushing me towards my destiny and getting me back
on my feet and making me confident again because I was not I was like, not it, not in a good
place for it.
And yeah, from that came Torn from this terrible mixtape and business card and this song that
Gavin only remembers.
When you asked me to do it, it was like, hey, you know, she's coming out of a Rodney
jerky.
I just got a keyboard.
I know, but he did it.
My brother did it.
And I'm so grateful to him.
And that man has been with me like, I mean, from tours when I was nervous, did not want
to go on stage opening up for Mary J Blige.
I mean, everything.
I love him more than life.
And I I value his friendship.
And I don't be a weirdo.
Hopefully I can do a record in the new fancy studio.
Hopefully I can, you know, because, you know, he got lots of time now.
You know, it's a lot of clients.
And I don't know if I've just seen what I'm saying.
It's people calling people.
It's lights in the ceiling.
It's giving books.
Should I do a record here at GMB Studios with my brother, Gavin Luckett?
Tell me what y'all think.
Drop the comments below.
OK, guys, so I told you I was going to bring you to some of my favorite spots in Houston.
And when I tell you if you want some good barbecue, Burns Original Barbecue is it,
period.
Let's go get our grub on.
How you doing?
I am.
I know my order by heart.
Can I have your chicken sausage, baked potato, barbecue sauce?
Jalapenos, please.
Can I have some beans?
That was for me.
I thought we were sharing.
I'm sharing my baked potato with you.
Thanks.
Is that enough?
Something.
This is my favorite thing to eat at Burns Barbecue.
It's like chicken, smoked sausage.
Y'all, when I tell you, look how it's not dry.
The flavor is so amazing.
One thing, so I don't get to shove it in.
What do we got in the baked potato?
In the baked potato, we got the fresh, hot potato.
We got the brisket, smoked, charred brisket.
We got the biscuit, baked.
We got the baked potato, 24-hour.
We got the baked chicken.
We're going to hit it up with the cheese and chives and sour cream.
Put it all into one.
It's magic.
Magic.
Okay, Kim.
Remember the old post office?
Yes, yes, yes.
Well, it ain't the post office no more, honey.
It's the post.
What is the post office?
It is the best place in Houston to get your pictures on, to take your selfies.
Yes, the backdrops.
It's just the view, everything.
The lighting is amazing.
I can't wait.
This is going to be fun.
So this is my favorite part of the post.
Isn't this bad?
Look at that.
Look at this dope staircase, y'all.
Look, the aquarium.
All of the city of Houston.
Yes, the aquarium is right there.
Look at the backdrop.
I mean, come on.
The lighting.
Ah, hey, friends.
Hey, you been to Houston?
And if you have, what are some of your favorite spots?
Where do you go eat?
Where do you go shop?
Where do you go play, hang?
Do whatever it is you want to do in my city of Houston.
Let me know in the comments below.
