Trump's Midterm Showdown: Why Ilhan Omar Is Back in the Spotlight

Federal agents searched Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar's Washington, D.C., home on October 12 as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. Now, investigators have reportedly seized her phone and issued subpoenas to several people, including relatives.
The search has renewed attention on longstanding allegations involving Omar's immigration history, past marriages and family finances. Omar denies wrongdoing and says the investigation is politically motivated.
What is actually known? What remains unproven? And could this investigation have consequences for one of President Trump's most outspoken political opponents?

If a U.S. congressman were found
to have obtained citizenship under a false identity,
and even entered into a sham marriage
with his own brother to secure that citizenship,
and his family's assets skyrocketed
from $50,000 to $30 million within a year,
only to vanish into thin air overnight,
how long do you think the U.S. government would put up with him?
At 4:30 yesterday morning,
police cars blocked off 26th Street in Washington.
Trump's number one nemesis, Ilhan Omar, has had her home raided.
This is a rare scene in American politics.
Behind this lies the shadow that has surrounded Omar for a decade,
her true identity, the controversy over her mind-boggling marriage,
and a word Trump never fails
to use whenever he mentions her, corruption.
Today, we're going to get to the bottom of this sudden raid,
and the series of question marks surrounding Omar, all in one go.
Here at TrueView, we specialize in our 20-minute deep dive series.
If you value your time and want to get
the full picture of hot topics all at once,
this is the best place for you.
Monday, October 12th, 26th Street in Northeast Washington,
4:30 a.m., it was still dark out.
A 79-year-old woman living nearby
was woken up by a loud knocking on her door.
When she looked outside, the whole street was blocked off.
Several vans were parked in front of the entrance,
and a group of agents wearing gloves were going in and out,
with the letters HSI printed on the back of their jackets.
Many people haven't heard of HSI.
It stands for Homeland Security Investigations,
a division under Immigration and Customs Enforcement,
ICE, that specializes in handling criminal cases.
They deal with serious crimes like smuggling,
human trafficking, and immigration fraud.
The Department of Justice's statement consisted
of just two simple sentences.
HSI executed a search warrant that was requested
by the Department of Justice and approved by a judge,
and this is an ongoing federal criminal investigation.
However, more information was quickly dug up.
Fox News reported that this search
is related to Omar's immigration documents.
Sources from the AP and NBC said this is a criminal case
that has been under investigation for several years.
NPR reported that a whistleblower revealed
the focus is on her immigration fraud.
Looking back now, there were actually early
signs before this operation took place.
Back in March of this year, Vice President Vance went
on a conservative podcast and said,
We believe Omar absolutely committed immigration fraud.
He also said that he and White House Deputy Chief
of Staff Stephen Miller had been thinking about how to investigate her,
how to build a case, and how to get justice for the American people.
In May, Vance publicly revealed that the Department
of Justice was investigating her.
In early September, Secretary of Homeland Security Mullen
stated directly at the Republican Midterm Election Convention
that Omar married her own brother to get him into the United States.
He also said that things were going to happen. Just you wait and see.
A week later, White House border czar Haman officially confirmed
on Fox that ICE is investigating.
It's a criminal investigation involving marriage fraud,
and he specifically mentioned stripping her of her citizenship.
So what exactly did this Omar do to make the Trump administration seem
so determined to get rid of her?
Omar was born in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia,
and her official year of birth is recorded as 1982.
Friends, remember this year, because
there will be a major twist later on.
When she was eight years old, the Somali civil war broke out,
and her family fled to a refugee camp in Kenya,
where they lived for four years.
In 1995, she arrived in the United States as a refugee
and later settled in Minneapolis,
the city with the largest concentration
of Somali Americans in the country.
In 2016, she was elected to the state legislature,
and in 2018, she entered Congress,
becoming the first Somali American
and the first federal legislator of African refugee origin.
After entering Capitol Hill, Omar quickly became one
of the representatives of the far-left wing of the progressive faction,
forming the famous squad with AOC and others.
The three most famous things she has done in the last year
or two are criticizing Israel,
criticizing U.S. foreign military policy,
and going head-to-head with Trump.
She said that American politicians
are bought by money to be pro-Israel,
and said she is ashamed that the United
States has always lived in hypocrisy.
She said that the United States
and Israel have committed unimaginable atrocities,
just like Hamas and the Taliban.
She called Trump despicable.
Regarding the largest fraud case
in the U.S. in recent years that occurred in Minnesota,
she was in fierce conflict with Trump.
After Trump described the Somali community in Minnesota as
Somali pirates, Omar fought back multiple times,
shouting that Trump killed Americans. And Trump
retorted that it looked like she should be sent
to a mental institution. As for what this matter
is really about, we will discuss it in detail later.
This is one of the most suspicious shadows
hanging over Omar. In short,
this is a very radical far-left individual who, in the eyes of
Republican Party does not love America.
And for a Congresswoman who is so high
profile, constantly at the center of controversy and tearing into her
opponents, if her citizenship
was obtained through fraud, do you think the
Trump administration could tolerate that?
So what exactly were the federal agents
who broke in this time looking for?
What other unknown secrets are there about
Omar? The starting point for all of this,
well, has to start with her age. Do you
remember that birth year in 1982 that we asked
our friends to remember earlier?
According to Omar's official account, her father officially naturalized
and became a U.S. citizen in the year 2000.
Because she was 17 at the time and considered a minor,
she was able to obtain U.S. citizenship along with her father.
Under U.S. law, children under the age of 18 can naturalize along
with their parents and automatically become citizens.
But once they turn 18, they are considered adults
and must submit an application on their own.
The problem lies in this specific year.
A conservative from Minnesota named
A.J. Kern dug up some of Omar's early public records,
which stated that Omar's birth year was 1981, not 1982.
Just that one year difference leads to a completely different outcome.
Because if she was born in 1981,
then when her father applied for naturalization in 2000,
she would have already turned 18 and could not have
been naturalized automatically along with her father.
Kern also mentioned something even more bizarre.
Just a few days after he publicly raised this suspicion,
Omar's birth year on websites like
the state legislatures was uniformly changed to 1982.
In other words, before this,
the public information regarding Omar's birth year was inconsistent,
and records showing 1981 were subsequently erased.
The second point of suspicion concerns her father.
Kern said that when he filed a request with the immigration authorities
to access Omar's father's naturalization file,
the response he received was that no such record could be found.
If even her father's naturalization record cannot be found,
then how can there be any talk
of the daughter naturalizing along with her father?
And since Omar's father has already passed away,
this age issue is just an appetizer.
The real suspicion that Omar hasn't been able to shake for 10 years,
which keeps being brought up and discussed repeatedly,
is the issue of her marriage.
This involves three men.
In 2002, 19-year-old Omar and her first partner, Ahmed Hirsi,
we'll just call him Hirsi from here on out,
held an Islamic religious wedding ceremony.
Note that this was only a religious ceremony.
They did not obtain a marriage license from the government.
Therefore, legally speaking, they were not considered husband and wife.
I need to explain here that, according to Islamic tradition,
as long as the ceremony is officiated by an imam,
witnesses are present,
and both parties sign a religious marriage contract,
the two individuals are considered married
at both the religious and community levels.
However, in the U.S. legal system, as we know,
if you don't obtain a marriage license,
This kind of religious wedding has no binding power,
and the two are still considered single.
So some Islamic sects allow a man to take up to four wives,
but in the United States, that is a serious criminal offense.
And Omar's situation falls precisely into this gray area.
How so? Keep watching, friends.
He and Hirsi held a religious wedding, had two children over time,
and in 2008 dissolved the relationship
through Islamic religious procedures,
meaning the two were divorced.
The even more bizarre drama officially
kicked off one year later, in 2009.
Shortly after their religious divorce,
Omar turned around and married a second man named Ahmed Elmi.
This Elmi was a British citizen, and this time it was a legal
marriage where they officially registered with the government.
Following the logic of a normal person, as newlyweds,
they should naturally have started their sweet life together.
But if you look back at the public records from that time,
you'll find that what happened next was stranger and stranger.
First of all, the residential address they registered
was a private house in the suburbs of Minneapolis.
Coincidentally, in that same year, the ex-husband,
the already divorced ex-husband Hersey,
applied for a business license at a government office,
and the address he filled in was also this one.
In other words, the bride, the legal groom, and the ex-husband
were all actually registered under the same address.
The local major newspaper, the Star Tribune,
later dug into public records
and even confirmed that for quite a long period of time,
these three people were actually living under the same roof.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Shortly after the marriage, this legal husband, Elmai,
went off to North Dakota State University to study.
It is said that he graduated in 2012,
and Omar also happened to be an undergraduate
at the same university, graduating in 2011.
Since the two were already married at the time
and their places of study almost overlapped,
they must have gone together and accompanied each other, right?
No, a local news report from 2013 stated that Omar
and her husband, Hirsi,
moved to North Dakota so that Omar could finish
her political science degree.
Now, this is an article introducing Omar.
This information either came from Omar herself
or from her ex-husband's own account,
or it must have been provided by Omar's office or spokesperson.
person.
Obviously, such information does not align
with Omar's legal situation at the time,
because her legal husband was Elmi.
How could she be accompanied by her ex-husband to study?
So where was her legal husband?
Or was it that Omar had a legal husband,
an ex-husband, and a religious husband all at
the same time, and the three of them were living together?
What really made Elmi's identity suspicious
were the traces they left online.
The traces they left online revealed who this Elmi actually was.
When Omar first started her campaign,
netizens dug up an old photo, which was allegedly posted
by Elmi on Instagram in June 2012.
At that time, Omar had just given birth
to her third child, and the father of this child
was Hirsi.
Back then, Elmi posted a photo of himself holding the baby,
and he referred to the child
as his nephew.
And Omar, at the time, also interacted
with him in the comments, calling him uncle.
Back in 2012, folks,
you have to realize that Omar and Elmi were already legally married.
So why would she call Elmi uncle?
And how did Omar have a third child
with her ex-husband whom she had already divorced in
2008?
This relationship is getting a bit messy, isn't it?
So is Elmi actually Omar's husband?
Or is he her child's uncle?
Anyway, keep that question in mind, folks, and keep listening.
This post was later deleted.
Elmi's full name is Ahmed Noor Saeed Elmi.
In Somali naming conventions,
the middle name usually follows the father's name, and Omar's
father's name also includes Noor.
So some have speculated that Elmi
and Omar actually share the same paternal line.
However, these still count as circumstantial evidence.
What I'm about to say next is officially confirmed information.
In 1919, the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board investigated Omar
for misusing campaign funds,
using campaign money to reimburse personal
travel expenses, and even hiring a lawyer
to handle tax issues.
When the Campaign Finance Board was investigating
this matter at the time, they incidentally
uncovered something.
In 2014 and 2015, Omar filed taxes jointly with Hirsi.
But the problem is, during those two years, her legal husband was Elmi.
U.S. tax law stipulates that only legal spouses can file taxes jointly.
Being married to A while filing taxes with B is a violation of the law.
In the end, Omar was fined a small amount of money.
So when you string all these bizarre points together,
the ex-husband, the current partner,
the overlapping residential addresses,
their shared campus history, the social media interactions
between the nephew and uncle,
the matching paternal names, and the illegal joint tax
filing, it really makes you suspicious.
Is this so-called husband Elmi actually Omar's own brother?
That registered marriage in 2009 was essentially a sham marriage,
orchestrated to help her
brother obtain US status.
So what did Omar have to say about it?
She said that Elmi is not her biological brother,
and that it was a real but failed marriage.
She said that their relationship deteriorated
quickly after they were married, and in 2011
they divorced according to religious customs
and lost contact afterward.
Because she didn't understand the legal procedures
and lacked common sense, she dragged
it out until 2017 to finalize the divorce.
And in 2017, Omar had just become a state representative
and was preparing to run for
Congress.
If what she said is true, then her marriage
to Elmi only lasted two years, from 2009 to
2011.
Later, when her third child was born in 2012,
it wasn't Elmi's, and Elmi was referred
to as an uncle.
And the fact that she didn't file taxes with Elmi afterward?
All of this seems to make sense now.
However, this explanation hasn't been corroborated by further evidence.
There's only her simple explanation.
If you believe her, then all
these strange occurrences can be explained.
It really just comes down to whether you believe her or not.
I'd like to ask you, my friends, how do you judge this?
If you think Omar's explanation makes sense, type reasonable for me.
If you lean towards the idea that Omar's been living
with her first husband all along, maintaining
a substantial marital relationship,
and that the second husband, Elmi, was only brought
in midway for the purpose of helping him apply
for a marriage green card, then type two husbands,
one wife for me.
let's see how you all judge it as for me i lean more towards
the latter according to omar's
account she had a religious divorce from her first husband
in 2008 legally married elmi in 2009 and
in 2012 she gave birth to her third child
who was with her ex-husband in 2014 and 2015 she filed
taxes with her ex-husband i think for a large part
of that time she was living with her first husband
it's just that elmi popped up in the middle
and when omar ran for office in 2016 she was still
legally married to Elmi.
Her explanation that she lacked common sense and didn't register the
divorce is unbelievable,
unless she was waiting for Elmi's immigration status to come through at
the time, perhaps waiting to see when it would be approved,
until it dragged on until she entered
Congress in 2017. As for whether this Elmi was true love
or her own brother, it's hard for us
to confirm for the time being.
And this Elmi, in the end, didn't get U.S. status either. They only
submitted the application.
In the end, Elmi left the United States and went to work in Europe.
So, regarding the speculation, friends,
if you agree with me, please give me a like.
In 2017, the second year after Omar and Elmi legally divorced,
in 2018 she got a marriage
license again with her first husband, Hirsi,
and a year later they divorced again. Why did
they divorce? Because the third man in Omar's life appeared.
There is a detail worth mentioning here.
when the two divorced in 2019,
a conservative podcast cited an insider saying that Hirsi
had privately complained to friends that he would
not go to jail for Omar. Although this claim
hasn't been verified, if it were true,
what could Omar have done that carried such a high risk of
jail time? This brings us to the last couple of years.
Whenever Trump mentions Omar, he always
brings up one word, corruption. What is the basis for his claim?
We'll look at this through three
different angles next.
First, the largest fraud case in the country, her current husband's
business, and Omar's own sister.
Going back to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, many schools in
the U.S. were closed at the time,
and children from many low-income families couldn't get their
free school lunches. So the federal government allocated
a large sum of money to the states,
which was then handed over to community
organizations to distribute meals to the
children. In Minnesota, a non-profit organization called Feeding
Our Future, a very nice sounding
name, emerged to handle this.
Its job was to recruit various meal distribution sites.
What is a meal distribution site?
It's a place that distributes meals to children, which could
be a restaurant, a community center, or similar institutions.
They would then submit expenses to
the state government on behalf
of these institutions, with the federal government
picking up the tab. This organization,
this non-profit, would then take a cut from that.
As it turned out, those meal distribution sites reported
that they were serving thousands of children every day.
But in reality, most of the meals were never distributed at all.
The lists they submitted were fabricated, and the invoices were forged.
Once the federal funds hit their accounts,
they were immediately transferred out to buy cars,
luxury homes, and overseas real estate.
In the end, the total amount of money swindled was nearly $250 million.
The Department of Justice later indicted over 70 people,
and as of now, more than 50 have pleaded guilty or been convicted.
the vast majority of whom are of Somali descent.
Then, in May of this year, the founder of this organization, Amy Burke,
was sentenced to 500 months, that's 41 years and 8 months, in prison.
So, what does this whole affair have to do with Omar?
Aside from the fact that this was the largest fraud case
in her home state of Minnesota,
there are so many points of intersection
between Omar and this fraud network
that it makes one suspect she was a member herself.
First, on the legislative front.
In March 2020, Omar introduced a bill in Congress called
the Mills Bill, which allowed the Department of Agriculture to relax
regulations for the Child Nutrition Program during the pandemic.
This meant on-site inspections weren't required,
restaurants could participate in distributing meals, and parents
could just pick them up and leave without having to register.
This bill was later tucked into the Pandemic Relief Package, and it was
precisely these relaxed measures that created an opening for scammers.
The Minnesota House Anti-Fraud Committee stated
in its report that the Mills bill had dismantled
the guardrails. The second intersection is at the restaurant.
The largest meal distribution
site in the entire fraud network was called
the Safari Restaurant, and its owner, Salim,
said, and Amy Burke is the mastermind behind that fraud case,
the founder of that non-profit
organization. They were tried and convicted together,
involving $16 million. And this
Safari Restaurant was precisely Omar's old stronghold in 2018
when she won her first
congressional election the victory party
was held right there over the course of two years her
campaign team spent money at this establishment 12 times in 2020 she
also filmed a promotional
video in Somali at this restaurant
which was broadcast on local Somali television while
promoting the Mills Act she
also specifically thanked the Safari Restaurant stating that Safari
served 2 300 family and children's meals every day
the third point of intersection is that there
is a high degree of overlap between Omar's donors
and the criminals involved in the fraud case.
Minnesota's KARE 11 TV station discovered
that three defendants in the fraud case had donated
money to Omar, and one person
who had already been convicted in the fraud case was found to
be a campaign operative for Omar's team.
This May, before being sentenced, the main culprit in the
fraud case, Amy Bach, said in an interview
with the New York Post from prison, I find it hard to
believe that Omar was unaware of this.
Bach also said that every time those relaxed policies were
about to expire, many people would go
to Omar's office for help to get them renewed. As for
Omar, she has consistently refused to testify regarding this case.
To date, federal prosecutors
have not charged Omar with participating in the fraud,
and the state legislative auditor
has not found that she designed the original bill
for the purpose of fraud. Therefore, a more
objective conclusion at present is that Omar
was the most prominent political figurehead
in this fraud network. She appeared in photos with the main culprits,
accepted their donations,
and endorsed their projects.
However, there is currently no legal evidence proving that she
received any money from it or was aware of it.
If this fraud case is a shadow cast by her
endorsements, then the second line of inquiry involves
the actual tangible flow of money.
Tim Mayne is a political consultant in Washington who,
along with his partners,
started a consulting firm called
East Street Group that specializes in fundraising and
digital advertising for Democratic candidates.
Starting in 2018, Omar's campaign team became
his client. In August 2019, Mayne's wife,
Beth, filed for divorce, and in the documents,
she clearly stated that her husband had personally told
her he was having an affair with Omar
and moved out of the house the very next day.
In October of that year, Omar divorced her
first husband, Hersi.
The following March, five months later, she registered her marriage
to Mayne in Washington.
After the two got married, the money, the questionable money,
had moved in. Throughout the 2020 election cycle,
Omar's campaign team paid her husband's firm,
E Street Group, over $2.9 million.
Nearly 80% of that company's total political revenue over
those two years came from Omar alone.
They had already paid out over $500,000 before they were
even married. During the period when the affair rumors surfaced,
the consulting fee she paid to
this company suddenly jumped nearly seven-fold.
While it may be procedurally compliant, looking
at it from another angle,
nearly $3 million of the money voters donated to Omar ended
up in the pockets of her boyfriend-turned-husband's company.
Is every single transaction of this
money really compliant? We suspect campaign funds
are being misappropriated for personal
use. Bizarrely, while Congress members must annually disclose
their and their spouse's
assets, these reports often raise questions.
In 2023, the assets declared by Omar's family
did not exceed $51,000.
On the 2024 disclosure form, this figure jumped to between $6 million
and $30 million, an increase of several hundred times in just one year.
Where did all this money
come from? According to the records,
it mainly comes from two companies, a venture capital firm
started by Minette and his partners
with a declared value of $5 million to $25 million,
and a California winery valued at $1 million to $5 million.
Then, last September, after the
Washington Free Beacon broke the story,
the House Ethics Committee intervened and launched an
investigation. As a result, this April,
Omar submitted an amended disclosure form, and the
assets returned to the range of $80,000 to $95,000.
In the span of a year, their assets went from
$50,000 up to the $6 million to $30 million range,
and then a year later, they were back under
$100,000. The excuse was actually that the accountant made a mistake.
Omar claimed that
the accountant failed to deduct liabilities
and also mistook the total value of the company for
her husband's personal stake.
Do you believe an explanation like that? And the more you look at
these numbers, the weirder they get.
Legal documents show that in February 2024, her husband's venture
capital firm's bank account only had $42 in it.
Yet, this very same company, with less than 50
bucks on its books, somehow distributed $210,000
in cash to Minette in 2024. With such a huge
discrepancy. Where did that money come from?
To this day, no one can say for sure. The company
even claims on its official website
that its management team has managed $60 billion in assets
and lists former Senator Baucus in the advisor section.
But Baucus himself says he only spoke
to them on the phone once and never agreed to have his name listed.
And as for the other winery,
about a week after its declared value was changed to zero,
it filed for dissolution.
So you can tell there's a lot more going on here than meets the eye.
Another key detail comes from
the Washington Free Beacon.
In a lawsuit, a partner of Omar's husband, Minette, told investors
that one of their funds had been frozen
by the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets
Control, which is the office specifically responsible
for regulating sanctions and
terrorist financing.
So the source of these funds is extremely sensitive.
What Omar is involved in
likely goes beyond just financial corruption.
It also involves national security issues.
And it's not just her husband.
Her own sisters also implicated in the possibility that Omar
used her public office to funnel benefits to her own family.
Back when Omar was serving in the state legislature,
conservative media had already disclosed that
her sister was running a clinic in Minneapolis
and had received a special appropriation of
$2 million. Later, her sister opened
a consulting firm called Great Partners, claiming to have
secured over $20 million in funding for various health projects
and even had a partnership
with the U.S. Agency for International Development.
However, in July of this year, when the Daily
Wire conducted an investigation,
they discovered a flaw that made one's scalp tingle. This
consulting firm, which claimed to have leveraged tens
of millions of dollars in funding, was
actually registered at an ordinary residential address
in Cloquette, Minnesota. The owner
of this house happened to be a business partner
of the core perpetrator of the pandemic fraud
case, and the contact person registered
for another child care facility under her name
was none other than Amy Bach, the main culprit of the fraud case.
So it was the business
partner of the fraud case's main culprit,
who provided the registration address for
Omar's own sister's company,
and is still claiming there's no connection between them.
That's just insulting people's intelligence.
These three threads, Omar's connection
to the Minnesota fraud case, the mysterious rise
and fall of her husband's company's assets,
and her own sister's relationship with the
main perpetrator of the fraud?
Here in all this, do you really think Omar
was completely unaware of it?
Or is there definitely something wrong in its actual corruption?
If you agree with the former, type a 1.
If you agree with the latter, type a 2.
With so many questions, as a member of Congress,
the Trump administration certainly wanted
to get to the bottom of it, and naturally
the Democrats weren't happy about that.
The House Democratic leader is now lashing out,
saying that with less than 30 days until
the midterm elections, Trump's violent mass
deportation machine has descended upon the
home of an elected member of Congress.
This is a thuggish abuse of power.
This surprise raid won't actually derail Omar's path
to re-election, because the Minnesota
5th district, where she's based,
is one of the bluest districts in the entire country.
In this year's primary election in August,
Omar secured 80.7% of the vote. In the 2024 general
election, she defeated her opponent by a full 50 percentage points.
The Republican she will
face on November 3rd is a retired state trooper.
This race is essentially a foregone conclusion,
and this raid might actually end up rallying
her voters even more effectively. But the real
killer move isn't in the ballots,
and it might not even be in this midterm election. It's what
comes after. Once charges are filed
and it reaches the point of stripping her
citizenship, then it becomes a question
of whether Omar is even eligible to sit
in Congress. Moving forward,
there are only two possibilities. Either the HSI
agents find nothing in the boxes they removed
from her home, in which case the
raid might become the Trump administration's biggest political
blunder before the election,
or they find something and then the United States
will have to face an unprecedented situation.
stripping a sitting member of
Congress of their citizenship.
I tend to believe that the reason HSI conducted
the surprise raid is that the Department
of Justice must have obtained some
evidence. And as we mentioned earlier,
insiders have revealed that this is a
criminal investigation that has been ongoing for several years. We will
continue to follow how this develops.
