Langdon just revealed the shocking truth on Jalen Dern.
As the Pistons open up Media Day with Jalen Dern still not being signed,
we get quotes coming through on Langdon on exactly what is happening
between the All-NBA All-Star Center and exactly where him and this organization
currently stand with camp fastly approaching.
We're going to break down everything you need on reports coming from NBA insiders,
quotes coming from Langdon himself, and exactly why the Pistons have their
backs against the wall with Dern not signed.
We're going to break all that down, so let's just dive straight into it.
Now before we get into Jalen Dern, I do want to do a quick update where we did
see a legend coming from Michigan in Gary Harris being waived by the Detroit Pistons.
Gary Harris was most certainly not going to end up breaking the rotation,
but not having him around the team does kind of suck as a veteran presence
and someone that can fill in gaps, shooting 44%, 41% from three, and 89% from the line,
it seems like the Pistons are slowly getting their roster together as they're looking
at this season to open up versus the Boston Celtics in just under 20 days.
Now looking at the reports, and of course this all led straight into camp opening up
and the report coming through from Shams today that All-NBA center Jalen Dern
is not attending the Detroit Pistons Media Day Monday, nor the start of camp.
Declining the option five years, $200 million fully guaranteed contract
in restricted free agencies so far, sources told ESPN.
The sides remain at a stalemate ahead of Thursday's deadline on a one-year,
$9.6 million qualifying offer.
Now following this up, of course Langdon spoke to the media.
He dove into quite a bit around Dern and even looking at the Detroit Pistons.
Where are we seeing Mark Stein?
So the Pistons today sent out their training camp roster with no Jalen Dern.
And diving into the press release of everyone attending this camp,
we can once again see that Jalen Dern's name is not among any of the guys,
including two-way players, players that are prominent on this organization.
Jalen Dern is nowhere to be seen.
And what came from Trajan Langdon is absolutely insane to hear.
But before we get into that, I want to give a huge shout out of the sponsor today,
which is Kelshi.
On Kelshi, you're trading directly against other users
and not the house like the traditional sports book.
You're buying yes or no contracts on outcomes across events like sports,
politics, or even the weather.
For example, you can trade on Jalen Dern's next team.
If you want to trade, know that it will not be the Detroit Pistons.
$25 would win you $120.40.
If you wanted to trade on the Detroit Pistons as a whole,
you can also trade on their game versus the Boston Celtics.
You can see the game 42% have Boston winning.
You have 58% saying the Pistons will win.
Trading on the Pistons winning this game, $55 would net you $95.26.
The best thing with Kelshi, again, you can use the weather, politics, sports.
You can trade on multiple things.
And if you're interested in trying Kelshi,
make sure to use the link in the description or the pinned comment.
When trading, make sure to use code DigestNBA
as new users get $55 instantly when you trade your first 25.
So if you wanted to trade on Jalen Dern's next team, $25,
then you can use the 55 that gets added to your account
to trade on their first game of the season, which is vastly approaching.
Once again, go check out Kelshi.
Use the link in the description or the pinned comment.
Use code DigestNBA as it helps out a ton, plus new users get that $55.
And let's just continue on with the news.
Now, the big thing is a lot of questions were being asked to Langdon over media day.
We can see even more reports coming out from Brett Siegel
that this morning the Pistons are still not interested in any Jalen Dern trade avenues
and want the 22-year-old center back to begin the season.
To this point, all signs from Dern, especially after turning down the $200 million,
is he doesn't want to be back.
Now with this, it continued on to Langdon saying he hasn't spoke directly to Jalen Dern all summer.
Now, of course, we've seen the reports that reportedly Jalen Dern feels disrespected
by the Detroit Pistons, which is absolutely insane.
The Pistons started at a low offer, sitting around the $35 million range.
Jalen Dern and his camp demanded $200 million on their next deal.
We've seen Langdon continue to go up until he hit the threshold of $200 million
and still has not spoke to the big men.
With media day opening, with the deadline on Thursday,
it's getting ridiculous to the point that Jalen Dern and his camp are holding out
with all the reports coming through.
And we're not letting this management off on the side either
because not speaking to someone that you're directly trying to get in contact with
and signed under a deal is insane.
Mark Spears added even more to the fire today where Jalen Dern,
he's not even talked to Trajan for months.
A Pistons source told me there's still optimism that they think he'll be able to sign the big men.
But if not, I'm hearing from an NBA GM told me that the Milwaukee Bucks,
the Atlanta Hawks, the Sacramento Kings, and the Washington Wizards
all have interest in a potential signing trade.
So once again, this is a Pistons team where Langdon is sitting and saying,
hey, I do not want to move on from Jalen Dern.
I want him within this organization.
Jalen Dern responds by saying, I feel disrespected.
But you matching the offer that we've initially asked for,
now sitting that we're in media day and Langdon is sitting at the podium
admitting that they have not spoke this entire summer.
Things are starting to get really jerky around this team and Langdon continued on by saying,
if questions about Jalen Dern's reported feelings of disrespect by the Pistons,
I won't let anyone's feelings get in the way of my decisions professionally.
This is a team that again, you're sitting there.
Trajan has made it very clear that Jalen Dern is a huge part of this team.
Regardless of what his decision is and what control is,
the way we welcome him in, when he makes that decision,
he will be a big part of the team regardless of what decision he makes.
And we want to get the best version of him and that's what we can control.
The biggest thing is, is now you have a stalemate.
Both sides are feeling the pressure.
Dern offered the contract that he wants and Langdon sitting on media day.
As a general manager that doesn't have his big man signed,
a crucial part for the team.
I love the pickup of John Collins.
I love Paul Reed as a backup center,
but both of these guys do not fill in that gap of what Jalen Dern truly brought to this team.
A 22 year old that yes, had a down playoffs where we seen him kind of get held by other teams,
the Magic, the Cavs, the game plan, which took Dern out of the play,
but nonetheless running the season with a qualifying offer by Jalen Dern,
which again is going to be very hard to do as you get the no trade clause
and you get to work where you want to go.
Langdon said that in negotiations,
it's the first time I've had to handle it here.
I was in New Orleans for five years with a certain player that wasn't easy to deal with.
We can control what we can control.
That's how we operate.
This feels like a lot of finger pointing from both sides.
Again, I do think Jalen Dern and his camp need to come off the high horse.
$40 million dollars in generational money,
especially to someone that's not in that position.
I cannot fathom having that amount of money sitting in an account,
let alone getting it per year.
This is now a team that has the deadline.
You have until Thursday.
You've seen the reports coming through.
You have until Thursday to work with this, to get it done.
You're not getting reporting to camp.
Fans, I want to know your thoughts on this entire situation.
We've seen reports the entire summer.
Coming from Shams, coming from Mark Spears, all the way to Mark Stein.
What is your thoughts on this current standoff with the Detroit Pistons,
with that deadline looming?
What is your thoughts on Langdon's comments?
Because again, both sides are in the wrong here.
But at least Langdon has increased that offer to hit that threshold,
and apparently that's went up.
I want to know your thoughts around Jalen Dern down in the comments.
What's your thoughts on the Hawks being in on this now, the Washington Wizards?
There's so much moving room.
And with a team that doesn't want to do a sign-in trade,
there's not a lot of options left.
Let me know your thoughts down in the comments.
I've been your host, Mark.
I know this is a lot to take in today.
Take care, Pistons fans.
Go Detroit basketball.
The season's fast approaching.
Maybe we'll have our big time by then.
