Five days. This is how long Katie Zachariah lasted
as White House press secretary. Five
days, guys. I mean, bananas last longer than that.
I mean, most New Year's resolutions last
longer than that. In fact,
your free trial of your streaming service lasts longer than that.
Press Secretary Katie Zachariah is out of the job after just five days,
a remarkably short
tenure that was marked by a rocky rollout at her first press briefing
and questions about
her legal credentials. The 41-year-old Zachariah stepped
into the high-profile job on Monday and
she was out by Friday. On Tuesday,
she had a press briefing that was widely criticized when she seemed
unprepared and she was later quizzed by reporters about
her legal background. Zachariah has long
described herself as a lawyer,
but she never passed the bar exam and is not licensed to
practice law. By Friday, Trump had had enough.
He told reporters as he exited the White House that
he had asked Zachariah to reconsider whether
the press secretary job was suited for her and White
House officials later confirmed that she was out.
So here's a twist, though. It wasn't CNN. It wasn't
MSNBC. You thought it would have been right.
Well, it wasn't even some angry blue haired blogger in
somebody's basement. It was actually Sean Hannity, guys.
Yeah. On Fox News, the friendliest couch in
all of television. President Trump's most loyal ally
in the corporate press turned the studio
lights up, kind of like an interrogation room,
and asked, you didn't pass the bar exam, correct?
Correct. Ah, of course.
Well, nothing quite says warm welcome like a cross-examination
about the bar exam that you never passed.
Next morning, she's out front of the White House,
glowing, cheerful, handing out
her phone number like a realtor at an open house.
call me, text me, email me. I'm not taking any questions.
One hour later, gone, fired according
to reports, transitioning out according to the official word,
which is Washington speak for
please return your badge to the front desk.
Then President Donald Trump, he steps up and he
delivers the softest breakup line in political history.
If I were you, I'd reconsider. Translation,
it's not you, it's me. Actually, it's Hannity.
Mostly it's Hannity. And Anthony Scaramucci,
the mooch himself the reigning world champion
of short white house careers at a whopping 10 days
called it ahead of time congratulations mooch
your record is safe your trophy shelf remains
undefeated so what's really happening here guys
secret trump audition vetting team on a coffee
break fired or quit and who's next brave enough
to stand behind that podium well today guys you're
gonna get the full story the parts of the headlines tiptoed around
and uh yeah if you're new here go
and hit subscribe. Our track record here beats five days
by a whole lot. Okay. And if you enjoy
the show, hit the like button on the way out.
Totally appreciate you. It is easier than passing
the bar exam. I promise you.
So Monday, a brand new press secretary walks into the White House
briefing room, shiny shoes,
probably some Christian Louboutin red bottoms, fresh binder, name tag,
practically still warm from the printer.
So my president, excuse me, my husband,
uh that's a that's a good one good morning
president trump is planning to hold rallies
in alaska arizona montana where i will be with him
and georgia building off of the incredible
momentum generated over the last several days
from his stops in tennessee new york texas and
Nebraska. He is an energetic president.
So my president, excuse me, my husband,
that's a good one. My husband is out here for the week
because we have two birthdays in our
family and we are very, very protective
of celebrating birthdays as a family. So he brought
the entire crew out here. Friday, the podium is empty.
The binder's gone. The name tag is in a
drawer somewhere. Five days, guys.
Katie Zachariah, handpicked by President Donald Trump, taken apart
by Sean Hannity out the door before most
people figure out where the break room is.
Now, think about your first week at any job.
You're learning the Wi-Fi password. You're
figuring out which coworker steals lunches from the refrigerator.
You haven't even set up direct
deposit yet. You probably didn't even set up your 401k yet.
She's already gone. And here's
the real kicker, guys. Anthony Scaramucci,
who held the previous gold medal in the White House
speed exits at 10 days,
predicted that she'd go even faster than he did. Nobody believed him.
Nobody ever believes the mooch, really.
But the mooch was right, guys. Let that sink in.
Anthony Scaramucci is now a political prophet.
What a time to be alive, isn't it? Now,
real quick thought. If a White House press secretary can
be gone before her business
cards even arrive, imagine how fast the stuff
that actually hits your wallet can change. Taxes,
Social Security, Medicare, gas prices.
By the time the evening news catches up, it's old news.
This is why I started the Ron Yates Report
newsletter. It's totally free. There's no
fluff. There's no transitioning out.
Just what's actually changing and what it means for you and
for your family. I left a link for you to join
in the description down below. It lasts longer
than five days, guaranteed. So how did it fall apart so fast?
Now let's rewind to her first
press briefing, shall we? Now picture this.
The briefing room is packed, reporters shoulder to
shoulder, cameras are rolling.
Every mainstream news network on the planet is watching and she
walks up to the podium, 14 minutes later, she walks away.
The first press briefing
by President Trump's new press secretary, Katie Zachariah,
lasted just 14 minutes today.
So thank you so much.
Katie, did the president speak with Ambassador Gilroy?
To the question on, the president will be back on Thursday,
and that's what I will answer.
I'll leave it there.
The president himself announced that she would
be briefing for the first time since taking
this new job, which she announced last week.
She came out here to the briefing room with a room
full of reporters with questions,
given there hasn't been a formal White House press briefing
since July after Caroline Leavitt left the post this summer.
And she came out and read some brief
remarks and then only took questions from three reporters.
It was something unlike what I'd ever
seen from many press briefings that have happened inside this room,
where so few questions were
taken or answered, and instead Katie
Zacharias said she would be deferring to
President Trump to take questions
from reporters as he's traveling and making
campaign stops this week.
She did make some news during her Q&A, the brief
questions that she took from reporters,
that Kimberly Guilfoyle, the ambassador
to Greece, had been asked to resign.
We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to
resign. Following that damning report
from the Wall Street Journal that she
had sought money in exchange for access
to Trump administration officials,
something Guilfoyle has denied.
14 minutes, guys. About three questions.
Yeah, three. You've spent longer in a
drive-thru line arguing about whether they forgot
your fries or not, or whether or not
the Polynesian sauce is already in the bag.
And the reporters, hands still in the air,
mouths are still left wide open mid-question,
watching the door swing shut right on behind
her. Now, look, guys, nobody expects perfection on day one.
I didn't expect perfection on day one.
it's a tough job. Caroline Leavitt is a boss.
You're not just going to fill those shoes very
easily. This is the toughest podium in the world,
but the press corps, they smell blood and the
headlines, they started piling up faster than
some dirty dishes after Thanksgiving dinner.
Oh, it was bad. Widely panned. This is the polite version, guys.
And here's the part that really
stinks. The first briefing, it was also her last.
But the briefing wasn't a knockout punch. In fact,
that came later from the last person that anybody expected.
Now, Sean Hannity, Fox News,
Primetime, you know, the guy that's
been Donald Trump's biggest cheerleader in the corporate press
for years. If Trump world had a living room couch,
Hannity would be, you know, the comfy cushion,
you know what I mean? So she sits down expecting a warm cup of cocoa.
She got a bucket of ice
water instead. Picture this, guys, bright studio lights,
Sean Hannity leaning in that stare,
The one that says, I already know the answer.
I just want to hear you say it. Yeah, first jab.
Her briefing was widely panned.
Second jab, 14 minutes, three questions. Oh, and then the big
one. You went to Pepperdine Law School,
but you did not pass the bar exam, correct? Correct.
Questions about your legal background, calling yourself a lawyer.
You went to Pepperdine Law
School, but you did not pass the bar exam, correct? Correct.
You took the bar exam, but you didn't pass the bar exam, correct?
Yes, Sean.
OK, did you ever take it a second time?
So so for background, I graduated Pepperdine, got married
in the same week, and we had all intent to move out to China.
I sat for it because I didn't want to have a withdrawal status.
And then I moved over to China and where I did get a job
in an international practice of a Chinese law firm.
I was doing multi cross-country border transactions
and multi-million dollar
shareholder agreements
but I want to ask you specifically I know that part of the story and
you did do all of that yes
but you did you ever take the bar exam a second time I did not third
time you did not okay oh damn yeah you could hear
the jaws hitting the floor from Maine to Malibu
and it didn't get any better in fact it only got worse
from there every answer was a shovel and
the hole just kept on getting deeper.
The friendliest couch
in cable news just turned
into a witness stand. Nobody saw that one coming,
especially her. Now, hang on guys,
hang on, hang on, okay? You know somebody
who swears Fox News always goes easy on Trump's
people? Go ahead and send them this video right now,
and then go ahead and sit back and watch
their face when they get to the Hannity part.
Priceless, guys. So now, let's talk about the
lawyer thing, because the media sure did.
All week, Zachariah was dogged by questions
about her decision to call herself a lawyer.
Here's the deal. Katie Zachariah graduated from
Pepperdine Law School.
Real school, real diploma, real ocean view, by the way.
But she never passed
the bar exam, never practiced law,
never stood up in a courtroom and yelled, objection. She didn't
do any of those things. So, of course,
the headlines went wild. Did she misrepresent
herself as a lawyer? Breaking news.
I mean, you would think she robbed a bank or something like
that. This is where the sarcasm meter hits the red zone, guys.
You would think this was like
an episode of Suits, okay?
Because these are the same folks who insisted for four straight years
that we all call her Dr. Jill Biden, right?
Doctor. Not a medical doctor. Couldn't take
your temperature. But say it wrong
and all of a sudden you're a monster. So let me get this
straight guys okay when their side stretches
a title you know a little bit it's respect but when
our side does it it's all of a sudden it's
a scandal got it very very consistent right yeah
now to be fair guys this is about a title not a crime
but in washington dc a title can sink you
so why would sean hannity even do that like
to Trump's own pick. Seriously, theory number one, guys,
the secret audition. Picture President Trump upstairs
in the White House, right? Feet up, diet
coke in hand, remote pointed at Fox News,
and he's just watching, right? Not watching a show,
watching a job interview.
Because maybe, just maybe, Trump outsourced the vetting to Sean
Hannity, live on national television, in front
of millions upon millions of people. Now, forget the
HR department. Forget some background checks,
just go ahead and toss her out into the Hannity
blender and see what comes out.
Now, honestly, that is cheaper than a consultant. Theory number
two, Sean Hannity was protecting Fox.
Think about it, right? For years, critics have called him a
softball pitcher, a professional head nodder.
So what better way to prove them wrong than throwing
a fastball right at the brand new press secretary's chin?
Instant credibility. Big, huge ratings.
Everybody wins. Well, almost everybody.
Katie Zachariah sure didn't win that one. So which is
it, guys? President Trump's secret audition,
or is it Sean Hannity flexing his muscles for the
camera? Maybe it's a little bit of both.
You decide. Let me know in the comments.
But now, if we fast forward to the next morning, right?
Remember, she got roasted on Fox News the
night before. Most people would just go ahead
and hide under the covers, you know, maybe take some
takeout, order some takeout, turn off the phone,
but not Katie Zachariah. She's out front of the
White House, guys. Sunshine, microphones, big old smile,
the energy of a kindergarten teacher on the
first day of school. Now, I'm not taking any questions,
she says, but please get my number.
Call me, text me, email me. I would love to work with all of you.
get my number, reach out to me, call me, text me, email me, I would love
to work with all of you
and I'm so excited to be working with President Trump
and on behalf of the American people, call
me, text me, email me, ma'am. They did not want
your phone number, they wanted answers. And then about
an hour later the news breaks: she's out, she's
gone. Like one hour, guys. You can't even get your
oil changed in one hour. She went from "I'm
so excited to be working with President Trump" to
cleaning out her desk before most
people even finish the morning coffee.
Most people didn't even get all their creamer in the coffee yet.
It's not been officially announced yet,
but the New York Times is now quoting three people close to the matter
as saying that Katie Zacharia has indeed been fired by President Trump
just five days, as you said,
after she began her role as his press secretary.
So here's the irony that really writes itself, guys.
She wasn't taking any questions.
Suddenly, the whole country had all sorts of questions.
So then President Trump steps up to the reporters and folks.
What happened next was an absolute
masterclass. Katie, is this for you? He says.
Because honestly, you don't need this. Translation,
pack your stuff. He keeps going. She's a nice person.
Very nice person. I've watched her for
years on television. Uh-oh.
When Trump starts listing your good qualities in public, this is
not a compliment. This is more like a eulogy.
Yeah, here lies Mr. Hankey. And then he kind of
admits, Sean was a little bit tough.
Sean Hannity carved that interview like a Thanksgiving turkey
and then came the line, if I were you, I would reconsider.
very rough. She was on Sean Hannity last night,
and Sean was a little bit tough, and she did,
I saw Fox and Friends this morning, they were a little tough.
She's been treated, I would say,
pretty nastily, and I said to Katie just two minutes ago,
I said, Katie, you know, you don't
have to do this if you don't want to.
She said, this is a lot tougher. I said, welcome to the
picture it guys gentle voice fatherly tone perhaps
a gentle nudge on the back big friendly smile and
a pink slip quietly sliding across
the table he even praised her family beautiful husband and
family beautiful kids it's kind of like a picture
from a postcard nothing softens the blow quite
like a family photo compliment guys
this was the nicest firing in washington history literally
president trump thought of all
the nicest things he could possibly say about this woman who's
getting fired. No yelling. No, you're fired.
Just a warm hug that kind of walks you straight to the
exit. Meanwhile, they're deactivating her badge as she's walking.
So was she fired or did she
quit? Well, it kind of depends on what headline you read, right?
So the Daily Mail, they went
full reality TV. You're fired. That kind of energy.
Big, bold letters, right? But other
reporters, they said that she was fired Friday,
according to three people who are familiar with
the matter, which is Washington for three guys
who won't give their names. Oh, and the official
word, she's transitioning out.
It is official Katie Zachary, who began her role as White
House press secretary just this week,
is transitioning out of the role, according to
a number of sources and a senior White House official.
Transitioning out kind of sounds like
a yoga pose or maybe a phone plan.
Picture two doors at the end of a White House hallway. One
says fired, one says resigned.
Nobody's going to tell you which one she walked through. Neither
the White House, nor Katie Zachary answered requests for comment.
Crickets. Total silence.
Now, President Trump, he said, I'll do whatever she wants.
Sweet. Also very convenient. Now,
here's a clue. The same morning, she was smiling,
she was doing interviews, handing out her phone
number. This is not somebody planning to quit by lunch.
So, this decision, it was made really fast.
Like, really fast.
Almost sounds really unexpected, even for Katie Zachary. Fired, quit,
it.
Transitioning?
Call it whatever you want, the podium is still empty at this point.
So now here's the question nobody
in Washington wants to answer, who let this happen?
Because of the bar exam thing?
This wasn't buried treasure, everybody knew that.
If you're going to hire her for White House Press Secretary,
this is some basic background
check stuff.
You didn't need a metal detector and a pirate map,
this was findable stuff.
Probably one phone call, probably even just a basic Google search.
So why did it blow up after she got the job, not before?
Well, picture it, guys. Somewhere in the White House,
there's a vetting file. Probably a Manila
folder, because they're always Manila.
And her name is on the tab, sitting on a desk, unopened,
probably right next to a cold cup of coffee and a half-eaten donut.
Somebody was supposed to read
that folder. Somebody didn't.
And look, guys, this is not about trashing anybody. It's a fair
question. Like, when you hire a babysitter, you check the references.
When you hire the voice of
the President of the United States of America,
maybe check a little harder. Just a thought.
because somebody skipped a step,
and Katie Zachariah is the one who ended up paying for it
on national TV in front of everybody.
I really felt bad for her. That really kind of brings us
to the part that nobody's saying out loud, guys.
Was she treated unfairly? I mean, serious question,
was she treated unfairly? And even President Trump said it.
She's been treated pretty nasty.
And when Donald Trump says the media was too rough on somebody,
you already know it got ugly. I mean,
think about it, right? Five days,
cable panels picking her apart like some vultures at a buffet.
she's a wife she's a mom beautiful kids according
to the president himself and she watched her name
just get dragged across every screen in america
in less than a week this is embarrassing for her
this is something she's probably going to carry
with her for a long time what was the upside for
her i'm struggling to see the upside for her i really
am i mean five days that's nothing and
your whole reputation just pretty much got
destroyed i mean look both things can be true
at the same time this job demands toughness
and the hiring it was still brutal now here's a twist
guys, she's not exactly out in the cold.
Sources say President Trump is still a fan. She's got
friends all over the administration, and that very night,
she and her whole family were reportedly
having dinner with Vice President J.D. Vance and the second family.
Out by lunch, dinner with the
Vice President by night. Only in Washington, guys.
Only in Washington. Now, let's be honest
about something, shall we?
Being Donald Trump's press secretary is arguably the toughest job on
planet Earth. Harder than the bomb squad,
harder than assembling some Ikea furniture without the
instructions. This is the high roller table.
These are some big old chips, big stakes,
no training wheels. The press is waiting
with sharpened pencils and zero mercy,
and President Trump himself said it. They will never ease up.
Now, you remember Caroline Leavitt.
President Trump said that she did a very good job. She
stood at that podium day after day,
took the punches and threw a few back, sometimes with a
smile, sometimes with a binder full of receipts.
So here's the question. If we already know what
works, it's kind of like having a great mechanic
and then switching shops halfway through an oil
change. Look, I'm not knocking Katie, but the bar?
It was set pretty high. So let me ask you,
would you take that job even for one day?
Yeah, me either. So who's next behind the podium?
Two names keep popping up. Scott Jennings,
you already know him from CNN, where he spends most
nights as the lone conservative on a panel full of people
who look like they just sniffed some
spoiled milk. Yeah, he takes the hits,
like a human piñata with good hair. But some folks say
President Trump's not sold. Why?
Well, Scott Jennings used to work for Mitch McConnell. Yikes,
I know, right? Yeah, never mind
that he's defended President Trump nonstop on live TV. He used to
work for Mitch McConnell. Now, hang on, guys, hang on, hang on.
RFK Jr. used to oppose Trump.
Tulsi Gabbard used to oppose Trump.
J.D. Vance once said, you know, some not so nice things
about Trump, too. And now these are all key players.
So if your past is disqualifying,
I'd have to say half of Washington needs
to clean out their desks. Then, of course,
there's Alina Habba. Fearless, loyal,
battle-tested in courtrooms, and yes, she actually did pass the
bar exam. Now imagine that, right? So who do you really want?
Jennings? Alina Habba? Somebody else
entirely? Let me know what you think down below.
Let's go ahead and see who America really wants
at that podium this time. So there it is, guys.
Five days, one Hannity grilling, one gentle knife,
and one empty podium. If you enjoyed the show,
hit the like button on the way out,
subscribe if you haven't. We're
not going anywhere, guys, unlike some people.
