The NFL is going to hate what the Patriots are about to do as today we have some major injury
updates from the first day of practice in week number two plus a look inside the wide receiver
room without AJ Brown. Why is one player's name continuing to be a focal point even though he had
literally no targets in week number one. We talk about a lot of different things here today on
Patriots Digest so stay tuned and sit back and relax. We appreciate you watching wherever you
might be and of course we hope you're having a great day. Let's get into first the injury news
as that of course is always going to be the forefront on Wednesdays and Mike Reese had this
to say from a Mike Vrabel on Trevion Henderson saying that he responded well to his return on
practice on Monday. He is making progress and should be able to do even more today. Thank
goodness not to say I was worried about Trevion Henderson after the absence of practice since
August 24th until this past Monday but I definitely started to get the antennas going and getting a
little scared for okay well let's not push this injury along farther and farther. Of course this
guy was arguably one of the best rookies in the class last year 900 plus yards in 17 games across
180 attempts great receiving back as well had a decent amount of touchdowns and I do think that
he is a pivotal part of making Ramondre Stevenson and himself a two-headed monster. That is a big
big thing not only for this team but for this offense and I do think that him being back it
signifies a huge shift into what the Patriots have on their offensive playbook. It opens up
a multitude of different things and I really do feel like it's going to help out this team
in more than just one way and of course that's a very big thing considering you're going to face
off against a really good stout defensive front for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now even though the
Pittsburgh Steelers do have a great defensive front I still am going to trade yes on the
Brangham Patriots winning this game versus the Steelers. If you trade $25 on our presenting
sponsor Kelshi you're going to get $35.95 back. Now on Kelshi you're trading directly against
other users not the house like a traditional sportsbook. You're buying yes or no contracts
on the outcomes of real life events across sports, politics, even the weather for goodness sake. You
can trade on how much snow New England's going to have in this upcoming winter. So that's pretty
cool and if you want to check out Kelshi you can do so today with the link in the description or
in the pinned comment and that way when you use this code DigestNFL you are going to get $25
immediately added to your account. That's going to be right there a free trade that you can pop
on the Patriots for a win this week against the Steelers. I appreciate Kelshi for sponsoring
this video again click the link in the description or on the pinned comment. Now as for the New England
Patriots wide receiver room that's something that is definitely intriguing. Before I get to that I
guess I should say I do want to go back to the injuries just to you know kind of wrap this one
up. There was a couple guys that were not spotted at the media access version of the Patriots
practice and we don't have the official injury report yet so we don't know were they a limited
participant and we just didn't see them but right now Carlton Davis, Draymond Jones, and Dermetrius
Crown over were the guys that were not spotted. Robert Spillane was back at practice after missing
the Monday session and of course Trayvon Henderson is still practicing. Barron Morton also he missed
Monday's practice due to illness looks like he was at least at practice today maybe even in a limited
fashion. Now the wide receiver room obviously is a big focal point after the injury to A.J. Brown
and knowing that he'll most likely be out for obviously four weeks at the minimum but likely
probably six weeks and so when you look at this wide receiver room it really does get kind of thin
you do have an extra practice squad addition that you know I haven't added it just yet and I have
Chandler Brayboy but you've got Kyle Williams, Romeo Dobbs, Demario Douglas, Matt Collins, and
Afton Chisholm as your right now just five wide receivers on the active roster so without A.J.
Brown a guy who was going to take significant targets and Romeo Dobbs who you know had we'll
call it a rough week in week number one against the Seattle Seahawks it definitely puts some more
pressure on the rest of the guys but one guy in particular is somebody that I do want to break
down because it is interesting knowing that he did not really get a target in week one and not
really talking about him I mean you see here Kyle Williams had zero targets in week one this guy is
one of the most speedy guys in the NFL and obviously there was a lot of discussion on him in this off
season of does he belong on this 53-minute roster does he belong in the wide receiver as soon as
Keyshawn Booty was shredded and the speed aspect of it and you know the Patriots like him and
obviously Drake May has spoke highly of him as well in fact Drake May even talked about Kyle
Williams in this week saying since the day he got here he's wanted to get better and prove he's just
not a speed guy he's not just that I think he understands the offense he's smart he's got great
route craft and he's got a release game that is really top level I'm looking forward to getting
more and more reps with him he made some big time plays for us last year and he'll get some chances
to go catch and run because he obviously can run so the confidence is there between QB1 and Kyle
Williams but the targets weren't now a part of that is just because of the way that the game was
played the way the game was called by Josh McDaniel let's be quite frank as much as I do want to say
Kyle Williams says more to him than speed I do think he does his his gadget is speed that that's
what he is you know built upon and a big part of his game if not you know most of his game so that
being said obviously there's a lot of discussion on whether or not you know you see Kyle Williams
in a you know more a bigger light I guess you could say I mean he's got some very solid plays
you talk about his regular season touchdowns last year and you're talking about a 72 yarder a 33
yarder a 37 yarder and then a preseason this year he had a 12 yard touchdown then he had a 69 yard
touchdown and he had a 45 yard touchdown so it just like it kind of is baffling that in week
number one we didn't get to see him that much and I do think that's something that maybe should be
discussed upon now he didn't have some crazy year last year 10 receptions for 209 and three
touchdowns it's not like oh we got to get this guy the ball but he was a second round draft pick last
year out of Washington State and yet he almost or not was discussed upon not making the roster
in season number two so without A.J. Brown though there's going to be a lot more pressure put onto
specifically Kyle Williams now he even talked about it and he's ready for the challenge I think
he's always said like hey I am here to bring something to the table in fact when they asked
him hey without without A.J. Brown you're in a much bigger spot what can we expect and he said
well a lot I can bring you know if I want to really go I'd give you a Christmas list for real
I could do a lot man and just when those opportunities present itself that's when I'll
be able to show him that's the problem that has been discussed throughout the past couple days
of the opportunities presenting itself now obviously the discussion behind A.J. Brown has
gotten into the Patriots locker room and talks about you know who's going to step up what's
somebody's got to step up to get step up to a bigger role Kyle Williams said you know asked
about opportunities and he said blank I've been having that eagerness since OTAs for real he wants
to be out there he wants to be competing he wants to be the guy to get some opportunities and he
continues to show that you know the speed is a part of his game but it's not all of his game and
when you think about what he was able to do this preseason 166 receiving yards obviously the three
touchdowns he had 27 plus yards per game I I can't think that we're gonna go into week number
two one receiver down and he's gonna get zero targets especially against what you know whether
Joey Porter there is there or not for the Steelers is definitely a pivotal thing but
especially for you know a potentially unmarked secondary of the Pittsburgh Steelers now again
I I do think it could be something that you know maybe it works out well maybe it doesn't Kyle
Williams still believes he will get more opportunities don't on if he believes going
forward he'll get opportunities he said I don't know that's between the coaching staff and god
man I can't really predict anything but if it comes it comes if it doesn't at the end of the
day I just want to win that's all I'm worried about it's a great mindset to have I'm glad he
has that mindset but as the coaching staff get this man the ball there's got to be ways to get
this man the ball Drake may understand that the the under throw for AJ Brown was there and he's
yeah whatever I don't care Kyle Williams is a great speech to receiver and Drake May is a great
deep ball thrower he can get it to him and I really do think that it's going to be a big part
of him and even Jeremy Fowler ESPN said that Kyle Williams is poised for a bigger role and that he
will take that on with AJ Brown heading to the IR until probably mid-October so we'll wait and see
what ends up transpiring with Williams and you know whether or not this becomes a bigger role
what the targets look like here in week number two for him how exactly he fits into those news
targets and of course you know all the details behind it so we'll keep you updated on it we
do appreciate you watching and of course we'll see you next time here on the show peace out
