The Eagles just blew a golden opportunity week for at home
versus the Los Angeles Rams, a game where given the circumstances,
they simply had to find a way to win, but they did not.
I'm your host, Colin Kelly.
Welcome to Eagles Digest.
In today's video, we're going to react to an absolute disastrous
and a disastrous second half to this game and why the Eagles
badly needed to find a way to hold on.
But before we do, subscribe to join the most passionately
informed community of Eagles fans.
Most of you not subscribe when it's free after all.
We're so close to 2,500 subs.
The Eagles were so close yet so far.
This matchup where they ultimately fall 24-20 allow 14 fourth quarter
points for the LA Rams to walk away with it.
The Eagles, after one of if not the best halves of football
they played this year in the first, more of the same.
They could not do anything all second half offensively.
I mean, you look at a little bit of a broad view.
Statistically, Stafford just lights them up on that game-winning drive.
After having a lot of struggles, the Eagles notably getting their
first two takeaways of the year with a massive Makuba and then
Cooper Dejean INT.
Eagles allowed Tyron Williams to get into the game to dictate things
in that fourth quarter.
Puka was always going to be an uphill battle to stop.
They just couldn't.
Not a lot of teams are, quite frankly.
Especially when you factor in the Eagles injury situation,
which we'll get into soon enough.
And then ultimately, the Eagles offensive line, Galen Hurts,
in tandem, too many sacks.
Where Hurts just threw for 93.
You net factor in sacks.
Just a horrific, horrific game from the offense.
Where defensively, the Eagles get one sack.
They did find ways to penetrate to get some tackles for loss as well.
Especially considering the loss of a Zach Vaughn.
They played, I think, the Eagles defense relatively well.
It's just not good enough.
It is just not good enough.
Where the Eagles offense let them down.
72 yards in the second half.
Total yards, Vic Fangio set the course, set the table.
About 400 plus yards, this Rams offense is able to just churn out
week in, week out.
And they did, ultimately, with that final drive.
A game where the Eagles, you were plus two in the turnover margin.
You were out first down, though, 26 to 12, two to one.
Penalties were a bit of an issue.
But third down, 0 for 12.
That's inexcusable.
That is ridiculous.
How an NFL offense does that?
It's just pitiful.
Relatively even time of possession, where the Eagles formula for me was
they had to, in effect, lead some time of possession.
If not, quick drives by virtue of the defense setting up a very advantageous
position, which they did a couple times.
But it's just not being enough for the foot off the Eagles.
But here's the big why.
The Eagles are in such a bad spot now, where you sit two and two ahead of a
week five matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Courtesy of Thomas Peterson.
Look at this list.
Tank, Bigsby, Saquon, Barkley, Devante Smith, Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson,
Dow Scudder, Quinani Mitchell, Cooper Dejean, Jonathan Granard, Zach Vaughn,
Marcus Epps.
As he put it, Eagles lost half their roster, effectively, are about to lose.
Well, they did lose this matchup.
Versus the LA Rams.
I mean, the complexion of being two and two, when you could have so closely been
three and one, factoring in all these injuries, where you know you've got a
tough matchup on paper versus the Jags, you factor in injuries, you factor in
the travel, a team in the Jags who consistently have been playing in London
as well.
So a little bit of an advantage, you would think there are things that they've
learned.
Juxtaposed, say, speaking of the Rams, how they were at a disadvantage
massively versus the 49ers, ultimately, and how that overseas game played out
as a result of failed travel, or maybe just not knowing the best way to go
about this.
The Eagles, when you look at, when you look ahead to this week five matchup,
courtesy of Calshi, thank you for sponsoring today's video.
The Eagles, just a 38% chance currently to win.
The beauty of Calshi is that you're trading directly against other users out
the house, like traditional sports books, you're buying yes, no contracts on
the outcome of specific events related to politics, even weather markets, but
of course, sports markets, like your Philadelphia Eagles, factor in this
upcoming matchup, this brutal London game, where the Eagles again, back
against the wall.
I don't think this game plays out.
I think when you factor in the injuries, when you look at the points that are
there, or the Jacksonville Jaguars, or the Philadelphia Eagles as well, and a
bit of a response game, quite honestly, given how horrific the second half has
been, it can't get any worse, right?
I think that there is going to be some points scored in this matchup.
I'm going more than 43.5, 44 plus points total for the game.
In other words, a $25 yes trade to pay at a 52% chance, $48 and 34 cents.
The beauty is, if you're interested in Calshi, using the link in the
description or the pinned comment, code DigestNFL, you get $55 added to your
account instantly when you trade your first $25.
When you look at specifically this offense, how they let this team down in
the second half, look, Jalen Hurts, the ultimate accountability leader, he had
this to say, not a lot to say to be clear, but in class of Jalen Hurts, courtesy
Zach Berman, I've got to figure it out, however it looks, whatever it means, find
a way to win the game.
You just got to execute.
Also being a theme of Jalen Hurts' press conference.
This offense, it's just been pitiful.
Just nowhere near good enough.
And as a guy that believes in Sean Mannion and believes in Jalen Hurts, they've got
to right this ship and they have to right it quick.
The most disheartening thing for me in this game, you look courtesy of Brett Coleman,
who does great work, NFL plus now, Trevor Sykema, he's a great football mind, to be
clear.
You look at the key play this game, when the Eagles ultimately could have put this
game away up 20 to 10 in the fourth quarter, found it in terms of how the Eagles
ultimately lost this game.
If you want to pin it down to a play, went through the camera angles, the reason why
the Eagles failed on third and goal from the two, a run play which was likely to work had
it been executed anywhere close to properly is because Cam Juergens all started, he
started pulling too early and he affected, he made contact with Jalen Hurts to make it
such a muddied, just gross exchange with Drew Kendall.
In terms of the center of the quarterback, I mean, this just makes you go insane as a
fan, it's the execution.
They've chosen to do this as far as the offensive line, they put Cam Juergens as a
left guard, have Drew Kendall, who I think has played relatively well at center.
This offensive line, especially now without Landon Dickerson or Lane Johnson, we know
Landon Dickerson, but Lane Johnson, to be clear, dealing with some personal things we
hope all is well with Lane.
This team though, Markel Bell, it just wasn't, it was not pretty.
It was not pretty to me factoring already the issues on the interior left guard and
now right tackle.
Oh man.
Guys, I want to hear from you your thoughts.
You're just doing a little bit of an overview here.
180 foot, Hurts, 3.4 per attempt, net 68 yards, less than 50%, 12 for 27.
You look at the rushing, Saquon now out with a hammy after we know he battled with the
stinger.
Tank Bigsby, of course, leaving as well after he showed some toughness, some tough running,
given the conditions especially.
It's just, this is a disaster.
Scenario as far as injuries, as far as where this team's at and their schedule moving
forward.
Yet Darius Cooper lead the way for as far as Eagles receivers.
You had notably though, Makai Lemon, six targets, but he had just one in the second half.
I don't understand it.
After he had three for 27 in the first half, how do you, how do we not get him involved?
There's some quick throws and if it doesn't work like it did to start the second half,
why are we abandoning it?
Sean Mannion, he's really, really under some pressure as if he wasn't already with this
Eagles blender that is offensive coordinators.
He's really got to step up, really got to step things up and figure it out between the
execution with him, Jalen Hurts, that communication.
You've got Nick Sirianni notably as well, failing to get the time out in time on the
botched last possession or should have been the last possession for the Eagles in terms
of that fourth and goal from the two.
Just not good enough.
We're four games into the year, we're about a quarter, a little bit less than a quarter
into the season.
You look elsewhere in the division, the Cowboys, the Giants picking up wins.
Vic Fangio, he's certainly getting his work cut out for him.
Had to go against Stafford and Nakua and then without, with the Quinion injury, oh
boy.
Then Cooper going down with what appears to be maybe a shoulder and then Granard from
a pass rush perspective.
Howie's got to help him out.
We're getting, it's getting late, relatively early into the season.
Howie, there's rumors about Josh Swett, could he be a potential target?
Reunion there.
And then with Zach Vaughn, look, I think Todd Campbell has had a bit of a rough go, but
I think Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
I'm going to take positives from this defense.
I think he had a pretty solid overall game.
Tackling machine and physicality.
He's a little bit undersized, but that doesn't let, doesn't really stop him.
So there's some guys I think on defense who look to build off of some good performances,
but offensively, it's just not really the case.
And guys, I want to hear, I want to just take some stock from you with this matchup.
Who do you think is more to blame?
The players or the coaches?
Players or the coaches?
For me, it ultimately falls on the coaches.
It simply does.
Do you guys agree?
Let me know down below.
This execution, the constant theme, the constant second half denominator, it's just inexcusable
and it's unacceptable.
Have a great one, guys.
Hopefully this didn't totally, this loss totally didn't ruin your day.
I don't understand if it did, but at the end of the day still, go birds.
