We have a shocking new Detroit Red Wings trade update as multiple insiders have revealed that
a contract stalemate with Simon Edmondson has now turned into trade talks. We're going to break down
how this situation has completely spiraled out of control all thanks to owner Chris Illich and how
it relates back to him as well as a major update on Dylan Larkin heading into the first few games
of this season with the former captain still being in limbo as well. We're going to break that all
down and much more in this episode of Red Wings Digest, but before we get into all of that,
quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. We've noticed that a large percentage of you guys who

in the comments and everyone discussing what's going on. Now, really quick thing before we get
into the shocking news of the day, Mo Sider has announced to have a new podcast with Tim Stutzler
of the Ottawa Senators, so congratulations to him. They'll be reporting once a month to give insights
around the league and kind of what's happening from a hockey player's perspective, which is pretty
cool. Now, let's get into the big news of the day. So, it sounds like Simon Edmondson's situation
with him going to Sweden has now spiraled completely out of control and apparently the
Red Wings are now looking at trade offers because there's multiple teams calling the Red Wings about
him. So, the other interesting caveat with this is that Simon Edmondson said earlier that he wants
to get a contract done and the interim general manager Sean Horkoff was named. He was able to
start negotiating. He said, I want to stay in Detroit. I'm going to participate in training
camp and now apparently there's shots being thrown at one another because Edmondson wants to stay
here. He wants to get it done and the org is not budging on their ask, which is a bridge contract,
which makes no sense and we've been talking about it for the last couple days at this point. So,
we're getting to a point, this is from David Paniota, where the player's frustration is
starting to boil over. I don't think there's been a formal trade request, but there's been a few
jabs tossed back and forth. So, Mark, it is truly, I see a lot of this on Twitter and people in the
comments using this word, truly unfathomable that it's gotten to this point. I mean, listen,
someone said two or three videos ago that is this really rock bottom? Can it get worse? And it
continues to do so. Maybe there is no rock bottom. This is a bottomless pit of just anger and sorrows
that we have with this team. But the big thing is, Darius, looking at this, this is a young player
that went to training camp without a contract, risked getting an injury and not playing this
season and for him to have to fly back to Sweden because you cannot figure this out. It's a damn
player that wants to sign a long-term deal with this franchise. Now, you're hitting a boiling
point where the player is starting to get upset. So, not only did you miss out on that eight-year
window to lock him up on this team long-term, you're probably going to miss out on a long-term
deal because he's probably going to want out at some point. Now, the trade reports are coming out
that there's jabs being thrown back. Teams are calling. This is a team that genuinely needs a
shake-up. And a shake-up already happened with the new general manager being fired. But this team
and what they've been doing is a laughing stock of the league kind of situation. And Darius,
with this, the team pushing that short-term deal and him wanting to stay, we're running out of
words how to describe this aster class that this team has been putting off. It's a good way to put
it. And every single day, we're getting new tidbits and information as to how badly this has
been mismanaged from this organization. Now, David Pagnotta had up on screen a couple seconds ago.
He's saying that a lot of teams are now more interested in Simon Evanson than Alexander
Nikishan. And things have changed very, very quickly overnight. Now, he also said that it
doesn't sound like Simon Evanson is overly interested in a four-year, five-year, six-year
deal. He wants the max seven. He actually wanted eight, but the Red Wings missed that deadline.
So he wants the max seven and basically nine to $10 million, or they're going to look at other
options, which is an offer sheet, which is a trade. They're going to look at other options.
That's basically what it is right now. The other thing that we learned too,
which I thought was absolutely insane is apparently Steve Eisenman offered Simon
Evanson a bridge deal earlier in the year, last year, that was less than $5 million.
And they basically scoffed at that. And now with all that, you know, you have different
players around the league, like Boyam getting contracts that are $9.3 million. Of course,
Simon Evanson numbers going up. He's a better defenseman. You know, they're great young
defensemen, but he is a better defenseman and more proven. He's played longer in the league. So
he is worth more. And that's exactly what his agent is saying. Now that offer offended
Evanson is probably why they are still in a stalemate. And it was always an Eisenman problem.
He has ruined this team at every level, LOL. And of course, this is just a tweet,
but, and that is per David Paniota as well. But, uh, the last part there is just the opinion from
the person tweeting. And now there's a couple of other things too, uh, from, uh, you know,
fans and what they're saying. There's no real general manager. Simon Evanson's not signed.
No captain Dylan Larkin is still here. Larkin is injured and missing the games this weekend,
which we'll get to later in this video. Chris Illich has no idea how dumb he is. And he's
continuing to make dumb decisions. Could this be a recipe for a disaster in the last place finish
in the NHL? It's possible. I don't know if that happens by the way, we haven't even really been
talking to the last little while of Alex, the brink yet. He still needs a contract to heading
into next season. This is an absolute disaster. Now I want to get to one other thing before I
send it back over to you. Hi. Uh, this is from pure LeBron teams are now calling Detroit on
Simon Evanson. This is, this is spiraling completely out of control. And JP Berry,
his agent presented him a few types of offers before Evanson went to Sweden and eventually
went to Sweden. The Red Wings are focused on signing him. So do you have any thoughts on
this information as well? Because this has been completely butchered. Uh, it's getting to a point
I'm going to make a prediction right now, actually, Mark, right? I'm going to go ahead
and say it right now. We'll see how things progress over the next couple of weeks.
He's not going to sign with the Red Wings because they're going to end up trading him
over a difference of a few million over a few years. And it's going to be a joke because he's
And the thing is too, is signing that long-term deal, you're saving yourself money. So if Chris
Illich is looking at the situation, Hey, I want to save money in the long run. You walk them up
long-term and that's exactly what that does. But looking at this and the teams calling Detroit,
can we even have our general intern general manager story make trades or is this team calling
and him saying, sorry, I got to call the boss. I got to call the owner. Am I allowed to do this?
It's starting the spiral at every single level from the trade front, the signing, the roster
moves, the lack of free agency pickups. Because again, this was a team that could not do anything
because they had no one appointed to actually make these moves. Darius Edmonds and stuff is
just going to continue falling. And the longer you wait, the more is home at Sweden. Yes. He's
training with some Swedish teams, which is awesome. The kids prepared. He wants to get
into this league. He wants to continue playing, but this is the problem of he's going to be a
behind because no hate to Swedish hockey leagues. They're nowhere compared to the NHL. And again,
you're going to file a step behind. You're going to probably come back on a short-term deal or get
traded. There's no upside with what is happening other than just sign that seven-year deal with
the kid, get them on this team, figure out the rest later. Yeah. And now he's back in Sweden,
like you mentioned with Rolanda skating with them, practice them as of Wednesday, which is just
absolutely horrendous. And Andrew Kopp spoke out on the situation too. And he basically said that,
you know, the situation is an important one, but we can't have too much worry in the room. I can't
really worry about if Simon is going to be here on Friday or not. That's not my job. We want Simon
here. He's a fantastic player. He's going to be a huge player for us for a long time. We'll see
about that, but none of us can control whether he's going to be here Friday or not. Speaking of
being here Friday, we have a brand new update on Dylan Larkin, Mark, and Larkin will not be playing
Friday at the home opener or Sunday. And they're hopeful, quote unquote, hopeful that he will be
ready for game three. I don't know if he's going to be playing at all at this point because they
are so vague with what's happening and he's working with the trainers and we'll see how that all plays
out. And then he finally did that media availability and said nothing basically. So anyway, here's
another quote from Todd McClellan too. We're not putting our heads in the sand pretending some of
these issues don't exist. We're dealing with them. And once we deal with them, especially internally,
that will give us a chance. So he's still trying to remain optimistic, but give me a break. This is
as bad, as bad as it gets. Now here are the lines heading into the first game of the season tomorrow
against the New York Rangers on home ice. We got DeBrinket, Kopp, Raymond. They've been together
almost all training camp. You got Finney, Confer, and Arvinson. You got Appleton, Danielson, MBN,
and Rasmussen, Kasper, and Kolisar on the fourth line, which is pretty interesting because Kasper
is playing a little bit higher earlier. But Mark, any final thoughts on these lines? Dylan Larkin,
the update there, looks like he's not playing this weekend. Who knows if he'll ever play again?
Because it's Detroit Red Wings at this point. And I mean, I think the thing is falling back where
you said maybe this is a team that trades a bunch of pieces, becomes a bottom dwelling team and gets
a high pick, but I don't think they can. This is not a terrible team. Of course, having Dylan Larkin
and Edmondson makes it better, but this is not near the bottom of the league. So you're stuck
in what feels like one of those treadmill teams. And I hate saying that word because, again,
you don't want to be stuck in that. But serious, we're in the situation where Larkin's probably
never going to suit up at this point. We still have an RFA that's not signed that's across the
pond in Sweden. And again, we're going into game one of the season where the tickets aren't even
sold out for this game. It's very vocal that this team and everyone in between is not happy with the
way Todd's speaking as well. It would be nice for management or ownership to at least speak. But
again, go cheer for the team, cheer for the people that's on the ice, Todd, everyone that's actually
playing, but it's going to be a tough start to this year. And I like that sentiment too, right?
Like, you know, cheering for your favorite players, but I do have to, you know, I see a lot of this
on Twitter. People are canceling season tickets. The home opener isn't sold out. People are
canceling their flex packages. People are canceling their flex packages and then getting emails back
saying, please buy our flex packages. It's just an absolute mess right now from everybody involved.
It's an absolute joke. And, um, I, I cannot believe that the fan base is being put through
the ringer like this, this off season into this season. I mean, like it was bad enough with all
these decisions, just lingering through the off season, but then to have them nothing, absolutely
nothing cleaned up before the first game of the season is a joke. And if they end up trading Simon
You should be rip roaring, mad, rip roaring, mad. If they sign or if they trade that guy.
