AI GeneratedThe New England Patriots are facing a critical void on their offensive line after Michael Winny was placed on injury reserve. With current internal replacements underperforming, the team is urged to explore a trade for Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Zach Zinter to stabilize the line and protect quarterback Drake Maye.
Patriots trade talks are escalating as a new target has just been revealed after the injury
to Mike Owen.
You on the offensive line with Mike Vrabel discussing potential replacements, none of
which seem to light the fire for the Patriots.
There's one option that has not been discussed just yet, and it grabs a guy who has been
a starter for a long time, now lost his spot.
It would be a perfect trade for the New England Patriots.
We talk about here today on Patriots Digest.
Welcome, everybody.
I'm Chase Andrews, and I hope you're having a great day wherever you guys might be.
We've got a lot to break down on the show, but of course, we got to start with the injuries
to the Patriots that have led to what we're going to talk about today.
We now know for sure that Michael, when you is going to be placed on injury reserve actually
already has, so he will be out for at least the next four weeks, and there is a quote
very small chance that he is able to play the rest or at any point in this season.
So that's not a great thing, especially when you look at this offensive line and how it
stands without him.
Now, we haven't updated the depth chart just yet, but right now, Greg Van Roten is the
guy who is going to take over it.
Spoiler alert, he did not impress in his one, his opportunity this past weekend when he
got in there after the injury.
So that being said, there's a couple of different options.
You got Demetrius Crown over.
You're going to stick him at right tucker and keep him there, but Ben Brown, Roten and
Rose and Rouse have been options to potentially replace a win you.
There's also been leaked that, you know, maybe Caleb Lomu could be an option.
My group will mention that, but I don't know if any of those options are the right ones.
And so today I've got a trade for you that would be perfect for the New England Patriots
to make and would not be a thing that is costly to them at all.
And I think it'd be perfect to start out their week three for speaking to week three of the
New England Patriots faced off against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
And I think the Patriots are going to take out this game, even though on Cal, she they've
got a 41% chance on yes to win this.
I'm going to trade on that.
I'm going to trade $80 on yes for the Patriots to win this game.
That's going to get me $187 and 36 cents back on calcium you're trading directly against
other users, not the house like an additional sports book.
You're buying yes or no contract on the outcome of events across sports, politics, or even
the weather.
Like you can trade on how much snow is going to happen in New England.
It's really cool.
So go check them out today.
And again, I put $80 on here because it's a, it's a, it's a term that you should look
at because if you're interested in trying out our presenting sponsor calcium, you use
the link in the description and then you follow it up with this digest NFL code, new users
who trade $25 are going to get an extra $55 instantly when they sign up calcium is super
fun.
So I highly, highly recommend you go check it out.
And as always, we do appreciate calcium for sponsoring today's show.
So knowing that we do not have Michael when you, and there's options for him to potentially
be replaced by an in-house option, Greg Van Rotten, Walter Ross, and Ben Brown have been
guys who have been mentioned there.
And of course we did also get the thought process that Caleb Lomu could be that and
said this, that there's a lot of things we could look at.
Caleb has been trying to predominantly practice and be there and be ready to go playing tackle.
We've got some guys we can move in there and Caleb would be one of the guys that we could
possibly do that with, but again, we just have to make sure that we have the best five
offensive line available, which in my opinion, Lomu is the best five in there, but I don't
see them that's happening.
So in that case scenario, you got to go find somebody else.
Enter this man, Zach Zinter.
Zinter is a offensive lineman for the Browns.
Now the Browns in fact drafted three offensive linemen and their most recent draft here in
2026, which put him into a losing position.
He got bumped back to the secondary left guard position behind Zion Johnson, a new addition.
They also had Titus Howard.
They also had Elgin Jenkins and they got Spencer Fano in the draft as well.
So three signings and for agents, they drafted three, three ones and they signed three guys.
So lots of offensive offensive line replacement value here, which left him kind of in an interesting
spot to go out there and be an option as a trait, which is definitely something I think
Patriots should explore, especially given the way that he has played over the past couple
years and in all actuality, why he has the starter level experience, PFF grades are great.
The statistics are great.
And I do feel as though that he is in a position where you can easily watch him and put him
right plugged into that left guard position or rather right guard position in replacement
for Michael Wynja.
Now he's got three things that I like.
One, he's got great pass blocking skills.
His hands are very solid.
He's a very good one step guy, takes that one step is in right in position to his PFF
grades really solid.
And then three, he's got starter level experience.
Now let's go to the article that kind of brought this up in regards to why this should be an
option.
Zinter, who also is a North Andover, Massachusetts guy, worked with Rabel in Cleveland during
the 2024 season and could finally find a real path to playing time if the Patriots are looking
to make a move ahead of the NFL's early November trade deadline.
The biggest thing to me is he's got some experience at the starting level.
He has some experience in multiple levels with Mike Rabel.
And at the end of the day, if Mike Rabel really does mean I want this to be the best starting
five out there, then it includes a guy that would either be Caleb Lomu, which he seemed
very hesitant to move to a guard position or going out in training.
I'm happy with Greg Van Roten and the veteran he is.
Happy with Ben Brown and what he's been able to do.
Happy with Walter Allison and the late signing there.
They are not starters.
They can't be.
Simple as that.
They cannot be starters.
So what do you do?
You have to go out there and make a move.
And that's exactly what this would be.
Now you can go out there and sign some guys, too.
There's definitely some free agent options in the offensive guard world.
Mekhi Becton, still out there, still somebody who could be a potential signing.
Obviously, it didn't work out with him in L.A.
Kevin Zaitler is definitely potentially an option as well.
I think the one that I would probably go after is Alec Kappa.
He's 31 years old and he's relatively cheap.
And on top of which, has eight years of NFL experience.
So I think that's the guy would probably take alongside maybe James Daniels.
But again, I don't know if those are the best options.
They're still free agents.
Whereas this guy, he's on a roster.
He's been playing and he has experience with Mike Frabel, which cannot be ignored.
I mean, you think about the guys that the Patriots have brought in.
There's been a lot of Frabel guys.
Harold Landry, Draymond Jones, to just name a few.
They've got some experience with Mike Frabel.
And of course, that's exactly where the Dog Pound goes on to talk about him.
Van Roten didn't exactly impress on Sunday against the Steelers when he was
pressed in action.
He replaced a win at the right guard and played 40 snaps.
But he was the team's worst graded player via PFF at 24.5.
That was PFF grade.
And Greg Berdard of Boston Sports Journal included he's among his three down
during his weekly appearance of 98.5 at the Sports Hub, which we have opinions
on the Sports Hub, but we're gonna leave those for a different time.
I think overall, Zinter can come in here and
provide a level of play that you don't have on your roster.
And I'm not trying to diss what the Patriots have.
I'm not trying to take away from Van Roten or Brown or Rouse.
But I just don't think they're starter level guys.
And so with that to be said, go out there, grab a starter,
grab a guy who's had experience,
grab a guy who is in a better spot to go out there and compete.
And again, maybe he works out, maybe he doesn't.
I just know that he's a better shot to work out than what we saw with
Greg Van Roten in his 24.9 PFF grade, whatever it was.
I just can't have that every game, especially for
how much I need to protect Rick May,
given the confidence issues that we've seen from him over the past couple of games.
Which leaves us to the final question of today's show.
Would you do this?
Do you think the Patriots need to add at guard?
If you think they do, then type Y for yes in the comment section.
If you believe they do not need to add at guard,
you think this is something that they could wait for, then type in for no.
Do you think the Patriots need to add at guard?
Y for yes, N for no.
Put your thought processes down in the comment section.
I've made mine pretty clear.
I really do think they need to add at guard.
I think it's a very much important piece of this team.
And without a when you,
I get a little bit concerned about the protection of Drake May.
So do it.
Feel confident about your five.
Will Campbell's looked great.
If you want to put Caleb Loma at the guard position, I'm happy to do that.
Happy, and that's my option.
But it doesn't sound like that's what Mike Rabel wants to do.
They want to keep him at tackle because they believe that this is probably
Morgan Moses' final year, which I understand.
In that case, you pop Loma over to the left tackle spot, and
you've got your tackles for the next half decade, whatever.
But you've got to figure out something right now with guard,
especially given he's gone for the season.
Like, I know there's a slight chance.
No, there's no chance.
I don't think he's playing.
But let me know what you think down in the comment section, and
we'll see you next time here on the show.
For now, guys, peace out.
