Despite a disappointing start to his career and low production with the Arizona Cardinals, his raw talent makes him an intriguing target to bolster the Patriots' receiving corps and support quarterback Drake May.
The New England Patriots are positioning for a blockbuster trade. That's what they failed
first round pick now available on the trade market and the Patriots kind of in need of a
wide receiver. We talk about the latest rumors surrounding the Patriots and the trade deadline
as Elliott Wolf looks to improve upon this team even without A.J. Brown. We break down the latest
news and information surrounding Marvin Harrison Jr. and him being linked to the New England
Patriots via trade. Welcome to Patriots Digest everybody. I'm Jace Andrews and I hope you're
having a fantastic day wherever you guys might be. Guys we've got a lot of things to talk about
but obviously today's focus it's going to be on Marvin Harrison Jr. Now MHJ is a guy who I actually
really coveted coming out of the draft. I thought he was going to be a very fantastic wide receiver
and that just hasn't been the case. I mean it's simple as that. It just hasn't been the way that
he's looked. It hasn't been really at all what we've expected and in my mind it's been something
that could be definitely in a better spot. This past year 12 games played 608 receiving yards and
441 receptions and he had four touchdowns. You go to the career and it's just never been something
you were excited to see. His rookie year was solid. 885, eight touchdowns. You thought okay
this is just the rookie season. He played in all 17 games. You're feeling like you're in a good spot
and it just hasn't been the case since. In 25 it was 608, four touchdowns. Preseason only played
was one or seven yards. There was a touchdown though and thus far through two games he just has
one reception on four targets with 33 receiving yards. It just hasn't been good. So how exactly
can the Patriots like kind of work their way in here given there is a new kind of talk about that
he is available via trade. In fact as we hear execs around the league are wondering whether
the Arizona Cardinals could explore trading Marvin Harrison Jr ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
He was number four pick in the 2024 draft and it's only caught
one pass this season. Not exactly what I would say as a number one overall pick.
Now speaking of week number three here and the potential for the Patriots out there,
I do want to bring up our sponsor Calshi because on Calshi you're trading directly against other
users not the house like an additional sports book. You're buying yes or no contracts on the
outcome of events across sports politics or even the weather for example. Now last night you had
Thursday Night Football but I'm going to trade currently on the New England Patriots winning
this weekend versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. They're at 41% for a win if you trade yes. So
I'm going to do what I want to do. I'm going to trade $80 on this and get $187.36 back when I make
this trade. I'm telling you right now Calshi is really fun to play and if you're interested there's
a reason I'm putting $80 on the screen. If you want to try out our presenting sponsor Calshi
use the link in the description or in the pinned comment and you make sure you use this code
that way all new users who trade $25 are going to get an extra $55. So right there you trade $25
you're getting $55 more. That's $80 right there to put on a trade or put $10 on this trade put
that $10 on that trade kind of spread your wealth. It's super fun so I recommend you all go check it
out. I really do appreciate them and appreciate Calshi for sponsoring this video. Go check them
out with the link in the description. For the Patriots Marvin Harrison is the guy who definitely
would be coveted here. Again I understand that the stats haven't been what they've wanted to be
and it's definitely not been a season where you can remember this guy looking good. Like throughout
this year the one catch is not something like oh well he's had this or this or this like this is
the reason. There's no reason. He just has one catch and the targets really aren't there as well.
I mean you think about what it's done it's just four targets. He has one drop up amongst those
four targets and it kind of is a concerning factor for him. But you can't take away the talent that
this guy possesses and of course rumors have started to fly on whether or not he would be
willing to be traded all this stuff and of course we got this from ML football. Which again ML football
is not a reputable source but just the fact they brought up the Patriots was intriguing to me and
so let's talk about it. Should the New England Patriots trade for Cardinals wide receiver Marvin
Harrison Jr? Harrison is still only 24 years old. He was the fourth overall pick in 2024 and pairing
with A.J. Brown will give Drake May one of the NFL's most dangerous receiving duos. I kind of
think we missed out a little bit on Stephon Diggs. I pushed a lot this offseason for the Patriots to
go out there and re-sign him. They decided to go the other way. I understand that Romeo looked
much better in week number two but knowing what this wide receiver room looks like and will look
like throughout the future you can't say that we would have a but you can't say that it wouldn't
improve the wide receiver room if we went out there and got Marvin Harrison Jr. You have a
combo of A.J. Brown, Romeo Dobbs, and Marvin Harrison for the next two seasons. Sign me up and
again I understand the struggles. I understand what he's looked like. I still want to blame part
of that on the Cardinals offense and I know Jacobo said oh well we just signed this guy to a big
contract. He only has three catches. No one's complaining about that. Why are we complaining
about Marvin Harrison Jr.? We're complaining because the offense is also not good and I think
that he would be in a better spot somewhere else i.e. the New England Patriots. Now that being said
his contract obviously is an intriguing one and would definitely be a part of what the trade value
would be. Now this year he's about 9.6 million dollars in a cap pit and over the next two
seasons it's going to be decently around the 10 million dollar range. 9.7 this year and 11.3 next
year on the final couple of years. Technically you do have that option so you could see him all
the way through 2029 obviously. That is a possibility. These are just the first two years that
put in their money wise. I do think that this is a guy who would have to be a decent trade value
back and that's something that would have to be considered by the New England Patriots because
you're not just going to go out here trade for Marvin Harrison for a bag of chips. That's just
not going to happen. So what can the Patriots trade for him? Well I've seen reports and again
I don't know how accurate these are and what exactly the Cardinals would want to take but
I've seen reports that it would take a round two or round three pick. So a day two pick in
theory. The Patriots have both of their day two picks in 2027 and both of their day two picks
in 2028. Now in 2028 they already have given up their first round pick and the A.J. Brown trade
so I doubt they'd want to give that up in the second or third but would they mind giving up
a round two this year to grab Marvin Harrison Jr? I think the question that comes up is definitely
and I don't know that the Patriots have that big of a need for Marvin Harrison Jr. As much as I
want is there I can't say that it's like oh yes we need him to be successful. Now this season I
would have liked to seen some more receiving yards thus far now we're just two games in I
understand we played a very good Seahawks defense but 386 yards in two games amongst the receivers
is not something I really like not to mention we don't have a single wide receiver above 100 yards
across two games and obviously A.J. Brown being injured is probably a part of that I still can't
sit here and say that I've been in love with the wide receiver combos now part of that is because
Drake May has also not looked like himself over the first couple of weeks but I do think that
you have to look at the future of this team and understand that Drake May is going to get paid
here in the next couple years and if you add Marvin Harrison Jr. the equation he's going to
be relatively cheap for the next three you're going to pay Drake May probably the next two
so in theory the trade would understandably be just a long-term rental I say long-term three
years because I don't think you're signing Marvin Harrison Jr. when he comes after that
which to me is probably the reason that Elliott Wolfe decides that he's not going to explore this
as much as I think it would be a fantastic addition and I would be very much open to the
idea of what we could see I just don't know that it's the right thing to do knowing the
contracts you're gonna have to you know sign here in the coming years and then the Patriots it took
a little bit to get Gonzo under contract so I can only imagine if they had Marvin Harrison and
Drake May to pay there is the caveat that of course Romeo Dobson a year could easily be cut
and the money there could go to Marvin Harrison and if Marvin Harrison continues to play the way
he is like obviously you'd hope the bounce would be there but if he continues to play the way he is
then in that case scenario he is probably going to be paid a little less than what you might expect
for a number four overall pick but let me know in the comment section this is where we ask you
your take on it um let me think and kind of put your thought processes down below on whether or
not you believe that Marvin Harrison Jr. should be a trade possibility for the New England Patriots
would you like to see him in New England why for yes or in for no do you think MHJ in a Patriots
jersey would look snazzy why for yes or in for no put your thought processes down in the comment
section and of course guys we'll see you next time for now though peace out
