NY Giants: 3 Reasons for Hope Behind a Turnaround

I get it, Giant fans. Some of you are reluctant to get too excited about the upcoming season based
on the preseason results, but I'm here to give you three reasons why it's okay to dream big
this year when it comes to Big Blue. The first, coaching. The Giants finally have a staff that
is experienced, accomplished, and in unison. Defensive coordinator Denard Wilson has already
shown that he has a plan for how to deploy guys that maybe past staffs struggled to find roles
for. On offense, the Giants have a combination of four coaches with prior coordinator experience
who have contributed the best of their respective philosophies into a system that fits the talent.
And on special teams, you have a unit led by Chris Horton, whose units have been top 10 on
a consistent basis league-wide. Number two, depth. When was the last time we could say that the
Giants had quality depth at every unit? In years past, all it took was for a string of injuries to
upset the apple cart. But now, the depth behind the starters at just about every position unit
is not that far off to where should someone be missing, an automatic drop-off will be the result,
and with it, losing records. Number three, a solid young core. From quarterback Jackson Dart to
linebacker Arvale Reese, is there any dispute that the last few Giants draft classes have filled in
the structural issues of the team's foundation? Really, the only question about the youth that
general manager Joe Sheehan has brought in is whether he'll be able to keep all of it when
their contracts start to come up for renewal. But overall, this is a good young core, headlined by
the quarterback who is still in his rookie deal, giving the team an ideal window to rise from the
ashes. Look, the bottom line is that no one can predict the season or the future, and I get it.
We've all had our hopes raised before, only to be let down. But so far, head coach John Harbaugh
has been meticulous in planning and executing every inch of what the organization is hoping
will finally lead to a turnaround from past decades of lousy football. And time will tell
if it all comes to be. But as far as the level of hope and optimism goes, it's hard to deny that it
hasn't been off the charts this year, and the excitement just might be warranted for the first
time in years.
