Here's your New York Giants practice report for Monday from East Rutherford.
The Giants only went in shells today. That means upper shoulder pads only with helmets.
It was a competitive jog through, which means a little more accelerated than normal. It was
significant in that Malik Nabors was out on the practice field today wearing the red jersey,
which means there's no contact. Everybody's got to avoid him and run away from him,
but this was only the second time that he had done that during the course of the summer.
The interesting part was they accelerated him and got him into the seven-on-seven passing drills.
He even caught a number of passes and high pointed one over the middle. Looked good.
Even John Harbaugh mentioned it was exciting to see him out there.
His teammates were excited about it. Malik was excited about it. The Giants still saying there
is no timetable on him. Harbaugh mentioning that, of course, they're hopeful and they're praying
that he'll be ready for the Dallas game week one, but both he and Nabors saying this is a daily
process, a week-by-week process, and only the trainers will have the say as to when he is
cleared to actually get into an NFL game again. But this was certainly a hurdle that he had to
clear and he was able to do so with flying colors this afternoon. As far as practice goes, again,
an accelerated jog through, but the last two drives were timed drives with under 90 seconds
to go. The offense had two opportunities to drive down the field for a winning score.
On each of those opportunities, they moved the ball but then got bitten by a takeaway.
The defense coming up big. At the end of the first drive, it was Kayvon Thibodeau with a
deflection at the line of scrimmage. Abdul Carter with the pick six as he intercepted the ball and
raced all the way to the other end of the field for a touchdown. On the next drive, Ardarius
Washington caught a looping ball down at the goal line and returned it about 40 to 50 yards upfield.
And with that, John Hallbaugh ended practice and said, hey, the offense did some things,
but big props to the defense for ending the last two drives with takeaways. The Giants will be in
full pads tomorrow before heading to Miami on Wednesday for Saturday's preseason game
with the Miami Dolphins. Keep it tuned to the New York Giants on SI Media Network
