The analysts weigh the Jaguars' historical success in overseas games against Houston's struggling defense and uncertain offensive identity, while also debating the playoff implications for Houston if they start the season with a poor record.
We get to kick off on Sunday out in London once again,
Craig, here with the Jaguars,
who stayed out there, which they have done,
I believe, three other times in their existence,
where they go there, they play two games overseas.
They did barely beat Philadelphia last week,
but they have been pretty good in those second games.
obviously hanging out there
for a week getting assimilated seems to favor them a little bit
and Houston I don't want to say beating Tennessee was nothing
but it kind of was nothing right now
they got to hop on a plane fly overseas division rival uh the Jags two
and a half uh the total is
at 42 and a half I think we see a better Jags team
but call me crazy I still don't know what
we're going to get from Houston, at least offensively anyway.
Yeah, he'll get a little shot in the arm with Harrison,
but I don't know what kind of impact he can have
in the first week of the season,
but maybe a back-end touchdown.
Houston gave up a lot for him, and you don't make a trade like that
if you're not trading for now and for the future, too.
So I suspect Houston will be one
of the better teams over the next few months.
Jacksonville is probably a better team
than Houston at the end of the season,
but Jacksonville is playing a little charmed, it feels like, right now,
like a little fortunate with some of the games that they've had.
And then I guess you could play the flip side and say they should have
beat Denver in Denver when they had that big lead and blew it too.
Jacksonville is a tough team to read
because the game against Philadelphia
was a game against Philly was a loss and they somehow came back
and won that game.
Better offense.
Maybe a little bit.
I would say Jacksonville.
Right.
Maybe a little bit better, but not a lot.
And defensively, yes, Jacksonville on paper right now,
statistically, is far better than Houston.
But Houston, I thought, was the best defense in the NFL.
One of them.
They haven't been able to stop anybody.
So this is a tough one.
I don't know.
Maybe I'm going to just continue the trend
of Houston not looking like Houston
and go over the total.
And maybe their defense is just not going
to be good this season, and that's it.
Because they just keep giving up points every week, Joe.
When is that week when they win 19-3 like they did all last year?
Hasn't happened.
If they start, now again, a loss here would be 1-5.
It's over, right?
I mean, you beat Tennessee, okay,
but you can't start 1-5 in that division, can you?
Well, I'm trying to think.
So, assuming Buffalo and assuming Denver, that's two.
Assuming Kansas City, that's three.
Assuming Baltimore is four.
uh no they can joe look it just tells you right there
that doesn't eliminate them no
one in five they're still alive because the you know
who are they fighting with cincinnati
but that last spot one two three four five six
so is it six teams that make it in each conference
is that is that correct or is it more than
that i think it's an extra one now isn't there and
they're like an extra like playing game now
or something no no i think it is seven is it
I think only the best, the top seed gets to bye, right?
Is that it? That's the only team that gets to bye?
I think that's it, yeah.
No, I think it's only the top seed now.
Okay, so it's not it for Houston, but yes, it's big trouble, clearly.
But again, throw that graphic up again, if you wouldn't mind,
because we get to see who they're fighting against.
So, is it formidable, Cincinnati? No.
Does Denver look very good? No.
Does New England look very good? No.
Is Jacksonville that good? No.
Those first three teams, yes, Buffalo,
Baltimore, but I wouldn't say it's over,
but it would be very unlikely if they
were to start 1-5 in the playoffs.
Yes, I would agree with that statement.
Unlikely.
Fourteen teams, seven per conference,
four division winners, three wildcards.
Seven.
Yeah, seven.
That's like they definitely would be right
in the mix even with a 1-5 record
and they somehow go 8-4 the rest of the way, they're in, 9-7.
Or 9-8, I'm sorry, 9-8
Yeah, 9-8, give you a chance
That's another one
That I don't know
I have to take a look
