Yo, what is good Mets Nation?
This is Richie from Mets Media and in this video I want to give you guys my reaction
to Trevor Bauer choosing the LA Dodgers over the New York Mets.
This news literally just broke 10 minutes ago.
Wanted to go, you know, make a video and give you guys my initial reaction.
If you guys are new to the channel, make sure you hit that subscribe button.
I'll be posting a ton of Mets content all throughout spring training, the offseason,
going into the opening day.
So if you guys are new, make sure you smash that subscribe button.
Also if you enjoy the video, make sure you thumbs it up.
With that being said, let's just jump right into my initial reaction because wow, what
a troll job from this guy Trevor Bauer.
Everything was aligned that the Mets are going to land him.
Every single reporter was saying that the Mets are the favorites.
The Mets are the favorites.
Every single Mets fan, including myself, thought it was done.
It was a done deal.
I was live with WardyNYM on his YouTube channel yesterday and we were talking about it.
We both thought it was a done deal.
If you guys did not check out his YouTube channel, make sure you do so.
Me and him are doing a weekly segment and we're going to switch off on whose channels
If you guys are coming from his channel, welcome into Mets media.
I love having you guys here.
So let's get into Trevor Bauer's contract because it is pretty insane.
Trevor Bauer signed a three-year deal with the Dodgers for $102 million guaranteed.
It's $40 million in 2021, $45 million in 2022.
He can opt out after each year, meaning he'll make $40 million if he opts out this year,
$85 million if he does so after 2022, and $102 million if he stays all three.
So that's kind of complicated, but wow.
The Dodgers are paying him $40 million per year annually, especially in 2021.
He's getting $40 million.
I personally wanted Trevor Bauer.
I said it on my channel multiple times.
I said it on WardyNYM's live stream, but I knew that if we're getting Trevor Bauer, we're
overpaying him.
I don't think he's worth the money that the Dodgers just gave him, and I know the Mets
offered him something very similar.
He had one good season, to be honest.
In the pandemic season last year, he won Cy Young.
He didn't have one good season, but he's up and down.
He never has been consistently great, like a guy like Jacob DeGrom, who's been consistently
great for every single season.
But I said to Wardy, I said to myself, you know what?
If we're going to overpay for him, the Mets are trying to go all-in and win a World Series,
and I'm okay with giving him that money, even though he definitely is not worth that money,
in my opinion.
The Mets are flexible because we can go over the luxury cap now that we have Steve Cohen
as the owner.
We have the flexibility to go over the luxury tax, and I felt like Trevor Bauer made sense
for that short-term answer because we had enough money.
But listen, he's on the L.A. Dodgers, and what a troll job.
Like I said, he posted a YouTube video of his reveal, and if you watched the video,
the amount of times he put a little edit of a Mets jersey just to make us a little like,
oh, he's coming to the Mets.
And then at the end, you see him with his Dodger jersey on like, Dodger fans can't wait.
Wow, he's going to be a very disliked player in the entire Mets fans.
I'll tell you guys that much because the amount of videos he's made, like in the past month
of him wearing a Mets hat, talking about how great the fans are, talking about how great
Steve Cohen is going to be for the Mets organization, basically just telling us that he's coming
to the Mets, and he completely flips the script.
He wanted to build his brand, and he did it, and he wanted to drag out and milk his free
agency as much as possible.
But I don't really think this is the end of the world.
Did I want Trevor Bauer in the Mets?
Absolutely.
But now that we flipped the page and we think of, okay, what can the Mets do?
Maybe we dodged a headache.
You never know.
Maybe he goes to the Dodgers, and now we got so much money where he's like, I don't really
need to do anything because I have $100 million guaranteed if I wanted to.
It's all in my shoes.
Like, that's a lot of money for a guy that has not been consistently great throughout
his entire career.
He's up and down.
He's a hothead, and I don't want to sound like I'm just hating on him because he didn't
choose the Mets.
He's a great baseball player.
He has a lot of potential.
He can definitely, you know, prove to be why they signed him for that much money.
He can bounce back, and he has a chip on his shoulder, and he wants to go to the Dodgers
and prove, like, listen, I'm not just a Mickey Mouse Cy Young winner like he has in his Twitter
and Instagram bio.
I'm a really good baseball player.
I'm one of the best pitchers in the MLB, and he's probably going to try to prove it.
But maybe the Mets really dodged a headache because he definitely is a guy that is, who
knows if he's going to be gelling in the clubhouse.
I know that, you know, Francisco Lindor said he's a great teammate and all that, but he's
known to be a hothead.
Maybe the Mets will be better off using that money elsewhere.
Now it definitely makes us seem like that we should definitely extend Conforto, extend
Lindor, and now we have enough money to be flexible and go out there and sign another
pitcher.
And I always looked at it this way.
The Mets, we have really good starting pitching, as we know.
Jacob DeGrom, best pitcher in baseball.
Noah Sengar coming back from Tommy Johns, hopefully he'll be good.
Cookie, we got him in the Lindor trade.
He's definitely solid.
Peterson was great for a rookie last year.
He's probably going to be in the rotation now.
And then Marcus Stroman.
I mean, bringing in Trevor Bauer would have just been, like, icing on the cake of, like,
wow, we have the best pitching rotation in baseball.
If we miss out on him, it's not the end of the world.
We have a lot of money now, flexibility, before we go over the luxury tax, and I feel like
Steve Cohen is still trying to go over the luxury tax, but there's not really a lot of
big fish out there.
Are we going to go and sign Jackie Bradley Jr.?
Are we going to get creative and trade for a guy for third base?
You never know.
I have utmost confidence in this Met front office to, you know, adjust and adapt to the
decision of Trevor Bauer, but wow.
This is my initial reaction.
I honestly did not expect this.
If you guys were on the live stream yesterday with WardyNYM, you saw that both him and I
were like, he's coming to the Mets, and we were so excited.
We're so uplifted.
We're like, wow, we're getting Trevor Bauer.
But now, here we are on the other side of the spectrum, and he is now officially a Los
Angeles Dodger.
Let me know down below in the comment section your reaction, and if you're happy that he's
on the Dodgers.
Are you sad that he's not on the Mets?
Because I feel like the Mets fans weren't divided in the whole Trevor Bauer search anyway.
Some of you guys wanted him.
Some of you guys did not want him because way too much money.
I feel like if the Mets did get him, I would have said that we overpaid him, but it would
be worth it because he'll probably take us to the next level in the postseason.
But now that we're avoiding that money, we better utilize it, and I have confidence in
Sandy Alderson to get the job done and bring in a guy and get creative within trade.
So again, leave a comment down below your thoughts of the video and your thoughts of
Trevor Bauer landing with the Dodgers.
Hope you guys are having a fantastic day.
Let's go Mets.
You gotta believe.
Peace out, guys.
