Shifting our focus to the war in Russia-Ukraine. It shows no signs of easing as Kiev and Moscow
continue exchanging barbs and attacks. And now the war might be shifting to a new frontier.
The space Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky has asked Donald Trump to block Russian and
Chinese satellites. According to reports, Zelensky asked the US president to impose
sanctions on Russian and Chinese companies that he believes are complicit in developing
Moscow was swift to issue a retort. Ex-Russian president Dmitry Medvedev hit back at Kiev.
He hurled expletives at Zelensky and warned that should the US block Russia's Rassvet satellites,
the conflict will blow up into a full-scale space war with Russia targeting Starlink
satellites that will fall like flies. He urged both sides to exercise restraint.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kiev accompanied by CEOs from
German defense companies in a show of support for Ukraine amid escalating Russian attacks.
The German chancellor told Zelensky that he can count on Germany for help. He also said if
Russia is not stopped sooner or later, its war machine will turn against Europe. During the
visit, Zelensky took the German chancellor to the damaged National Academy of Sciences in central
Kiev as air raid sirens blared in the background. Zelensky claimed Russia had deliberately targeted
the academy in a drone strike on September 28, which killed two scientists and wounded
seven people. And soon after the arrival of the German chancellor,
a bridge in Kiev was hit in a Russian attack. In a post, the city mayor said the attack damaged
the road surface of the northern bridge. Emergency services have rushed to the scene
and air raid sirens had earlier blared across the city warning of incoming drones.
But attacks were not just confined to the capital. Russian forces attacked Ukraine's
northeastern city of Sumy with guided aerial bombs, injuring at least seven people, including
a child, according to state emergency service of Ukraine. The strikes hit residential apartment
buildings, private homes and damaged cars, local authorities reported. Russia's foreign
ministry said it would continue to carry out mass retaliatory strikes on Kiev and other Ukrainian
cities. In the latest briefing, the Russian defense ministry said its forces had taken control of a
settlement in the Kharkiv region. Meanwhile, the IAEA says the Zaporizhia nuclear plant has faced
multiple drone attacks in recent weeks. It said the nearby thermal power plant was hit on September
Now, the Ukrainian president has vowed to intensify Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil
refineries in response to a new policy of airstrikes by Moscow designed to force people
to abandon Kiev. We have to respond in any way with their attacks on our energy. We have to respond
on their energy, first of all, oil refineries, et cetera, what gives money them for this war.
But we will not respond, of course, just like them, any civilians objects. I mean,
we can't do so because we are another people or or at least we are people.
