Is It TIME For Him To Go?
1 Video View·Oct 10, 2026
Is it finally time for him to go as this man has been very
controversial for the Padres and could be losing seasons for them?
Is it time to get rid of him or is he actually doing a great job
and everyone's overreacting and everything is okay?
Let's talk about it.
Hi, welcome back to another episode
of Padres Digest with your host, Andrew.
Yes, the season just ended.
Yes, I am miserable.
And yes, I am already making another video
because I am insane and I'm coping.
i'm huffing my copium uh i was gonna take i
was gonna take a day off today but i've seen a lot
of talk around a certain person mr aj preller himself
and i felt i should give my two cents
now that the season's over and everything is horrible
and life has lost all meaning
before we get too deep into it uh thank you
the reminder on the bottom right there for ruining my
day i didn't need you to remind me that we lost three to one
and i hate you now for doing that
anyways uh please subscribe as always follow us
on x instagram facebook padres digest uh anyways
let's talk aj preller uh
who doesn't love talking aj preller it's everyone's favorite hot take
a lot of people right now are blaming preller
a lot of people are defending preller a lot of
people are saying get rid of him a lot of people
are saying keep him i know you guys have your
opinions and i've seen your comments i know a lot
of you guys are pro well i feel like the ones who
are most vocal are the ones
who are con or don't like aj preller uh personally i have my own
opinions and i'll share with them in a little bit
but i feel like if you know me you should know by
now what they are so i thought we could just go through talk about
the pros of AJ Preller the
cons of AJ Preller uh and just you know obviously you got
to show the trades when you talk AJ
Preller has he screwed us i don't know i mean i do know
but let's just talk about it let's talk
about it oops hold on i gotta get rid of that whoop there we go
so AJ Preller keep or fire
the case to keep five of seven seasons he's had
a playoff berth from 2020 to 2024
three straight from uh 22 to 24 three straight 90 win seasons 93 90
and 91 playoff all three years
home attendance uh three million plus
for four straight years uh seasons above 500 five uh six
of 7 seasons, don't do the meme
2024 injury hit of course
I mean Pavetta got injured, Musgrove
got injured, CDIL for Laureano
Giolito, Ranjifo, Duran
and he really has no
control over that
and the fan pulse, his role
is to get us into the tournament, he does that
almost every year, these are people
from Twitter, Guy built a contending and
exciting team yearly
so he does have a lot
of success with the
Padres and you know he's
made the team good for the most part right
but on the flip side a lot of people are saying
yes the team has been good but he's
also been hurting the team in a lot of different reasons
right so of course we've had no NL West titles
that is kind of hard to do when you have the
Dodgers in the division but the best finish we've had
is second of five second in
World Series trips zero in 12 seasons
the furthest we've made it is one NLCS where we
lost four to one to the Phillies we have missed playoffs seven
of the 12 seasons that AJ Preller
has been um general manager and 21
and 23 are also really bad seasons postseason exits of course
NLDS NLCS NLDS and a wild card in NLDS
so we definitely have not made it very far recently
five managers of course you got Andy Green Jace
Tingler Bob Melvin Mike Shildt Craig Stammen
Mike's still kind of retired
so i don't know if it's really Preller's fault but you know what i
mean right fan pulse for that though just being competitive each year
is no longer enough i always
go back to imagining this team if he had just kept some
of the prospects traded away what does
that look like well it's a very long list those are all the players
and prospects he has traded
the way from 2020 to 2025 uh yeah it's a lot it's
a little it's a lot right i mean Leuvrays
obviously big names Ryan Berger
and Steven Kolkwitz for Freddy Fermin has definitely not looked
great for us i don't even know if Freddy Fermin will play
for us next year uh i assume so you know
got James Wood obviously uh you have Josh Naylor
uh Cal Quantrill had some pretty good years i'm
trying to find oh Xavier Edwards has been pretty good
um trying to find the obvious one obviously
Ty France is back where is where is he where's that mr shortstop
who's making us look dumb
there you go CJ Abrams Mackenzie Gore's been kind of mediocre
but i mean you can't argue
there's a lot of really good players on this on this list uh
and yes you could argue that
i don't think it's possible to say we've won the Juan Soto trade
because i don't think we
won the Juan Soto trade but i feel like if you look
at the full context of it it was pretty even
but if you look at it from a one from one standpoint we got fleeced uh
so i obviously
cannot argue that AJ Preller has definitely traded away great talent
for either good talent or just
not great i mean again i don't hate Freddie Fermin
but it would have been really nice to
have Ryan Berger and Steven Kolick on this team this year even
though both are out with Tommy
John this year uh or you know got injured
but you know like i i it was a little confusing so i'm not
going to pretend like AJ Preller hasn't had very bad trades uh
but i do think he's built a pretty
good roster i feel i do feel like this year
was a good AJ Preller work with what he has because
ownership didn't really want to spend money this year roster
but i also can't pretend like this
year's trade deadline definitely didn't suck i mean Casey
Mize is obviously the biggest one
i understood the trade at the time
because Casey Mize had a 2.70 ERA when we traded for him right
and then he had a 7.46 ERA with us 7.46 just god awful uh
and i i do genuinely think he was just
hurt the entire time he played for us
and i think AJ Preller took a risk and just completely missed
but we gave up Cash Mayfield
and Jackson Wolfe for that Robbie Ray i just never liked uh and i don't
know why we got traded for him but you know we gave up Mendes
and Hernandez who were both cool
pitchers right and engage workman i don't even
know why we got him but you know cool there's
also Hunter Stratton who actually i kind of like
but we haven't seen him at all he's a pitcher from
the Pirates who's actually been pretty nice in AAA
a but you know i think this year's deadline
might have been the worst deadline we've had
which i don't know if i want to say is saying something
because we've had some pretty i feel like most
of our deadlines have been pretty a-okay but i think
this one was by far the worst
but you know with the holes we had on this team i do think he filled
the gaps in nicely i mean Loriao got hurt we replaced him
with Saman Taylor and Saman Taylor
did his job for a while and then we replaced him with Renhefo
and Ren Hefo did a good job for a
while and then he got hurt and then we got Dustin Harris
who did a pretty good job but at the end of
the day all of them kind of failed during
the playoffs um and then the gaps we tried filling
with you know Griffin Canning which didn't work great Giolito
which didn't work great and then
we finally traded for Robbie Ray and for Casey Mize
and those didn't work out so i don't know i
mean i think the way i feel about Preller
and i'll show you here i do think my verdict i do want to
keep him right AJ Preller has done well
for what he has he's definitely not perfect but he's
done more good than harm even if there's
not a lot more good than bad it's still more good so if i
had to put like a percentage on it i feel like he's done 65 percent good for us
and 45 what's the math
on that 35 35 bad we'll say 60 40
because i can't do math 60 good 40 bad and the 40 bad as
definitely absolutely hurt
but i mean we are making the playoffs NL West titles i mean the dodgers
are gonna you know win most of the time
when they're spending 500 million dollars a year
NLCS trip was nice world series trips
though we're getting closer somehow well i don't know if i can
say we're getting closer sometimes it feels like we're taking
a step forward and then sometimes it
just feels like we're taking steps back
but three straight 90 win teams and i think the brewers are
a really good comparison to the brewers have
been a really good team for a long time and just
haven't amounted to much with that but i
do think they're getting very very close to being
that championship team so i feel like the brewers
are honestly a good comparison of who we want to
be not that i want to give them credit screw the brewers
but i i do feel like they are a good
example right so overall i do think preller does more good than bad
but i definitely do think the
bad it is really bad but i just don't know
who we could replace him with that could have a similar
impact to this team i don't think it's time
to blow anything up i know it sucks that we can't
be clutch i will say i do like craig stammen i
do think he had a very good first year and i do hope
he continues to manage with us
but i still don't know if he was the best decision to manage because
it was clear he got hella out managed by pat murphy uh
but you know we have him and i'm okay
with keeping him because i don't want to get another manager uh
but yeah so overall preller
i like you i'm keeping my eye on you uh the minute we go below 500
or miss the playoffs
goodbye but for right now
with the new owners hopefully smart spending i i do like the future
i'm excited for the future but what
do you guys think i know you're gonna give me your comments
on should we keep aj preller should we not uh
so again you know just just give me how you feel
tell me how you feel like him fire him just tell me maybe i'll make
a poll on youtube too while
we're at it but yeah thank you guys so much
