So I'm making a front yard like fence along our sidewalk
So we're into post production which means I'm going to start making the posts. So first thing I'm going to use a 4x4
Pristreted to go into the ground of concrete and then I'm going to clad it with 5 8 cedar
It's just like the cedar that you get for your fence
So I'm going to start cutting that and I'm going to use this
Track to make a straight edge. So what I've got my lines will be straight
This track for my tracks order to run the wood through the table saw so that the woods not straight
But if I run the straight edge through it'll put a straight cut in my board
So now I'm putting the cedar
Cladding onto the post. So this will be the appearance of the fence. So I cut everything with a 45 degree angle and I
Left it a little bit bigger than the post. It isn't tight-fitting. There's a little bit of room, which I'm using the glue to
Fill that space that way if the cedar shrinks up, which I assure you it will
That won't open up all the joins and leave all the joins like split and open
Okay, so I got a 4x4 pressure treated for going into the ground
It's gonna be concreted to the ground and then I wrapped it with cedar. So it looks a little more decent
So I'm just making my jig now for the post
I'm gonna put a stop on here
So I'm just making a jig for my top and middle rail for the fence on the post
Round it out
Slide into the rails. So I'm making a post and rail fence. So I've rounded out
one half of the post. So the 2x4 redwood 2x4s are gonna slide into these and
Then I've got a cap piece on top obviously
So I'm gonna route the other side. I'll make this jig real quick
Just so I can align
All my posts in the same place
It's just easier to get wood out of the way with a drill than it is of a router
And I've got two different routers set up so that one's set at half depth one set at full depth
So I don't have to adjust my heights
Well scrap that I actually ended up not using the small router in the end
The cedar was quite wet and a lot of the wood would be stuck inside the jig making it really hard to route
So I drilled most of it out the drill first cleaned it and then route it out with the big router and it worked okay
I'll be selling this jig for $10 on eBay
So now I'm making the post caps
I just got a piece of 2x6 redwood and I cut them to my lengths rip them to the same width and then I set
my table saw to
Whatever angle that is. I don't know but I cut from full full height to leaving a half inch
flat spot
So I'm putting the post caps on now and the idea of the post cap is is to get the water to shed off the top
of the cap and
Kind of protect the top end grain from the Sun
I'm using the wood glue to seal the cedar
so I use PL and all he's a wood glue, but the end grain of the cedar just to seal it and
15 gauge nail gun galvanized nails
There's a hundred better ways to do it than that. But this is the fastest
Kind of roll it a little bit
So I'm kind of sinking the rails now just so when I screw it in it doesn't miss the water
drilling chillin
skip to installation
All right, so I've got some holes dug here. I believe they're in the right place. You might see that jig
It might look familiar
It's the same jig I used to route the holes out with and I use that to set my posts
Exactly two inches off the sidewalk and at the right height
So all my posts would line up and follow the curve of the pavement
Glue it screw it. Do you dig it install it fence it post. Let's go
So I'm putting the concrete in rabbit sits
Obviously the best for posts for a fence, but you don't have to mix it prior to pouring it in
So it makes it really easy to work with. I like to pour the water in first and then pour the concrete
In and then I can add more water if needed
I use a little stick there just to push it around and get it all mixed
And I use glue on all my rails as well as some screws
Torque screws or whatever you want to call them
Due to a lack of good help I had to make a little brace here to help hold the rails up while I screwed it in
Did you make that after I you realized you made that after you realized I wasn't gonna be any help
Well, I was the first one I was like, I was actually thinking about it for I did
I thought I'm gonna try and do about it and I'm like no way
Plumb post is a good post
Get over there
How are you? There you go
All right, it's just about a wrap that's the last post
