Welcome to Wood Blueroo. I'm going to show you a little before and after of this wall behind me, which is in our living room.
I started off by demolishing the closet, and then I ripped out the rest of the wall where the closet was.
Some people choose to work barefoot, but I believe in safety and that's why I always wear my flip flops.
Someone accidentally put a bedroom closet in our living room, so we had to fix that.
Whoa.
Grant just took this wall off, but he didn't tell me.
I'm not the film crew, I'm the, uh, talent.
Demo time. My least favorite.
Bye bye, stud.
Making room for the new wall to go in.
And a miss.
Time to cut the floor.
Using my track saw here, cut a nice straight line.
So hey, I'm putting the pocket door in. I'm putting the door in to make sure that all the jams and everything work well.
And I insulated it and put particle board on it to stiffen it up.
Waiting for the pointer finger to show me what to do. There it is.
So I filled in the closet. It used to be, well here, this is where the closet started, went back to the corner.
So I put the television centered from this finished corner when it's finished to that wall.
So that when I do the panel details and the shelves, every space and dimension will be equal and symmetrical.
So you can get a pocket door track.
All you need for a pocket door is the door.
The track and the hardware are very inexpensive.
I framed the pocket door by an 8 inch wall, 8 and a half inch wall.
To give me enough room to put some solid framing in it.
To make it sturdy.
Because I've got this corner coming off the pocket door.
We've got the shelves going into it.
But I made it strong.
We insulated between the kids room and behind here. It's all bath insulation.
You can actually see some of it here.
Styrofoam inside the cabinet to get the pocket door as well.
When I put the stud in, I don't want it to be too tight or I have to force it.
And I'll just cut it short because I don't want to bow this piece of wood.
Being that a drywall sheet or a plywood sheet is 8 foot by 4 foot.
So keeping the 6 inch center means your joints are always lined on a stud.
So that's the framing for the front part of the wall for the paneling.
Pachow, pachow, pachow, pachow.
Install. Nail. Measure. Cut. Install. Nail. Measure. Cut.
And here's the MDF I'm starting to put on the paneling.
Making sure all my joints are going to be covered where the patterns are going.
At least 4 weeks at this point.
Week 4.
Huh?
This is week 4.
How many hours into this?
Probably like 40.
Or more probably.
Yeah, or more.
And I'm just finishing off this wall now.
Building out around the pocket door.
Power punch.
And time to get rid of the plastic.
Put it in the ocean.
And move on.
I'm putting in fixing for the television brackets.
And sweep it.
Flip and drop.
Put paint on this thing.
Make it white.
Painting is for painters.
I learnt that.
I think I already knew it going in.
But I was able to borrow a paint rig.
And I had a few issues with the tips.
And getting the paint not coming out how I would like.
So I eventually sanded it back a little bit.
And then the top coat came out pretty bad too.
So.
I don't know what to say.
Don't get painting advice from me.
Maybe pay somebody to do it for you.
So now time to put the TV in.
I've got the fixing already behind there.
2x8's for the bracket to screw to.
So it was an easy install.
And I framed up for a pocket door.
This used to be a swinging door here going into the hallway.
Which.
I figured we had the room now.
So put a pocket door in.
Create a little more space.
And get rid of that swinging door.
Dead zone you have when you have a swinging door.
So after demolition.
I rebuilt the wall.
I moved the header for the pocket door over.
And then I framed out.
I decided to bring it out 9 inches.
So you could put in some recessed shelving.
Next to either side.
Symmetrical of the television.
Just to add a little sign to the wall.
So it wasn't a big flat abyss.
And then underneath.
I decided to use some of this space.
Because this is a false wall here.
With the real wall being back here.
So I had some room.
So we put in.
I put in some cabinet doors.
Just.
Underneath the television.
And they finish.
To look like just the paneling.
So I framed out.
For a larger TV.
In case we ever upgrade.
And we're able to get a bigger TV.
In a failed attempt to impress my wife.
I put some LED lighting underneath.
Each shelf.
Oh my gosh.
Do you think the clicker will work.
Once it's behind the wall?
These are the sensors.
So I can drill a hole into the top.
And have the sensor sort of just sticking flush.
Wow.
That looks really cool.
There's all these different colors.
You can do orange and green.
And blue.
Red.
Oh.
I love it.
I'm so excited.
And the lights work with just clapping.
Just kidding.
It's a remote.
So that way.
When people ever.
Come over to our house.
We can really impress them.
Like.
Wow.
These people are so cool.
I'm like.
I know.
So I actually got these lights from Home Depot.
And they're a plug in.
And I just ran the wire.
The plug behind here.
And then the lights come down this way.
And there's a sensor.
Which I have just.
Poking out of the wall.
Just a little bit.
That receives the remote.
