>> Ethopia is the largest country in East
Africa
and flying within this beautiful country
feels like a continent on its own
because traveling from one city to
another via plane can take you an hour
or two.
We just landed in Daisa, the second
largest city of Ethopia, and we here to
do something crazy. Man, I I can't
believe I'll be doing this, but wish me
all the best because for the first time
in my lifetime, I'm here to feed hyenas.
Oh, is that the hyena man? The hyena
man. You going to buy some apple? What's
that? No potato, bro.
Ah, I have never seen anything like this
in my whole life, man.
The dude is literally bringing the
leftovers through the hyenas and he's
not scared. Like, it's like they've been
It's like they live with them. They're
used to them, man.
And these hyenas are not domesticated.
Can you believe it?
>> Does he know you?
>> Yeah.
>> What? He doesn't know me. I'm from
Ghana, man.
>> Yes. HEY, STOP IT. COME ON, MAN.

First of all, uh, welcome to Dawa. Thank
you so much.
Dawa is the second largest city in
Ethopia and it was established in the
year 1902 as the major stop along the
railway between Adis Sabava and
Djibouti.
Uh, this is one of the oldest uh,
trainer station in Ethiopia in 1902. So
it is built by a French uh people
because they were uh colonizing Djibouti
before. So this is the tie between
Djibouti and Ethopia. They trade some
communities between Ethopia and the
Djibouti.
This city is split into two settlements
separated by the Dhatu River which is
almost dry for most of the year and
become torrent only when it rain. One
side of the city is occupied by the
engineers that builds the railways and
the other part is what I'll be exploring
today.
This is called inoto.
>> Okay. In a mahar.
>> Yeah. Because this city is the whole
city
from Ethiopia. That's why we wear this
from hot like this.
Is it like a traditional?
>> Yes, it's it's the traditional.
>> Oh, okay. Yeah.
>> Nice.
>> So,
Oh, wow. It's like you're wearing skirt,
you know.
>> I I want to try it out.
>> Yeah. Okay. Try this. Try it.
>> Oh, okay. I hope it's not going to be
longer than me, man.
Like that.
Oo.
I saw it. Look at me.
>> So, what how do you tie it up?
>> Yes.
>> Like that?
>> Yes.
>> And then Yeah.
>> Wow.
>> Perfect.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> That's perfect.
>> Now we're good.
>> I think it's about time for us to
explore the city, man. You got Bajia.
This is the old city and I'm super happy
to be exploring the old city because it
makes me feel like I'm living in an As
ancient world because everything that is
happening in this city is old but at the
end of the day it's beautiful and
memorable.
I feel like I'm in love with this city
because you get an experience to you get
a chance to experience almost all the
things that used to be done in the past.
Hey.
Hi. How are you?
Hey, but look at my skirt. I can't even
move, man. How do I jump in?
>> Oh my goodness. Oh,
>> I I just want to enjoy
Why is everyone sitting here? They
sitting to to drink coffee here. Coffee?
Yes.
This is so good.
>> It's giving a Nest Cafe vibe.
>> Nest Cafe 3 in one.
We we're here to try the most famous and
oldest sweets in the entire down.
>> Older this, the sweeter it will be, man.
>> This is halawa.
>> Halawa.
>> Halawa. Yeah. Taste it.
>> How you say it?
>> Like everything got sugar, man. Yeah.
>> But it's so nice. This one especially is
best. This is best especially for sex.
>> This is ch a plant whose leaves are
chewed for their stimulant effect. It is
commonly used in East Africa including
Ethopia, Somali, Djibouti and Yemen. I I
I really want to know why do everybody
take this? Because the entire place
everyone is here to buy this to enjoy
it.
>> To enjoy.
>> When you eat the cat,
>> you make your your your serving is
>> fresh.
>> FRESH.
>> OH WOW.
>> HAPPINESS.
>> HAPPINESS.
>> HAPPINESS.
Oh my goodness. That's nice, man.
>> Bro, I'm so happy because of this.
>> Yeah. Happy. Happy. This is what I call
the green gold of Ethopia.
>> This is maybe the second or the first
export commodity of Ethiopia. eyes of
work.
>> Okay. The most mostly Yeah. The drill
population
>> they interested this J.
>> Okay.
>> For that reason they it has a lot of
advantage.
>> Okay.
>> The other advantage when you eat the J
>> you make yourself fresh happiness
everything is full.
>> Everything is full.
>> It's full. Yeah. Like a rich man you
know.
No one no one can reach in this country.
>> Okay.
>> You only the richest human in the world
>> after you eat
>> like mask.
>> It was even shocking to see that they
have a whole chat depot for wholesale
and retail supply. Now we are at a one
of the biggest ch market in Ethiopia and
in East Africa called Aai.
It means that like this town or city is
known for ch
>> for ch. Yeah. With very amazing charted
to Djibouti to Somalia and even Somalia
region and others.
>> Yeah. But but why everybody is just
chewing this man? Like the entire place
is full of chat, man. Like look at that.
>> Yeah, it's a three-story building. It's
about six building here. Three stories
only for ch for ching.
>> Never seen anything like this before,
man. It's
>> This is one of the biggest. And it's a
source of judge.
>> The source of chour to the rest of
Africa. Yeah.
>> How much is this?
>> 50,000. 50,000, bro. I'm now a chat man,
man.
I'll start eating Jack, bro.
>> The road from the Radawa to Haral is
definitely one of the most windy,
dangerous road that I've ever driven on.
At some point, I thought I was going to
die, man. But guess what?
The entire area is full of ch farms.
Working in this farm somewhere in
Ethiopia makes me feel like Africa is
home for Africans because this is how
Ghana is. I mean, even if you look at
the wall, that's how we build. Exactly
the same thing. But that's not why I'm
here. I wanted to show you the farm of
Ch the market that we just came from,
they get the raw materials from here and
exported to different part of the
country and also different part of the
continent, but literally within East
Africa. Bro, I think I should introduce
this in Ghana, man.
Halfway through, I found a city called
Maya City. I guess this is where all
Maya fans lives. Yeah. My goodness. Wow.
Welcome to Maya City, bro. Who lives in
Maya City?
Guys, this is beautiful, man. Knowing
that I have a city in Ethopia, I guess
it's about time for all of us to move in
here, man.
Even we have a lake called Haramaya.
Har means a lake. Maya is the name of
this lake. So the same name like you.
>> So I got my own lake in here.
>> You have your own lake here?
>> I heard this lake disappeared some time
ago.
>> Yeah, this lake disappeared 2001.
>> Mhm.
>> Disappeared. Totally disappeared.
>> Totally.
>> Yeah. For 18 years. Disappeared. So it
came back since 6 years now.
>> 6 years.
>> Only 6 years now. And it became very big
lake in Ethiopia.
>> Can I tell you something?
>> Yeah.
>> The lake is called what?
>> Haramaya.
>> Lake Maya.
>> Lake Maya.
>> 6 years ago it appeared again.
>> Yes. Yes.
>> Like something behind it.
>> What's that?
>> The first time I arrived in this country
was 6 years ago.
>> Oh, really? So the first time that I
arrived, the lake reappeared.
>> Oh yeah.
>> So
So know that.
>> So the lake took your name.
>> No, the lake is me.
>> Oh, you took the name.
>> The lake is me.
>> Oh, you?
>> Yes.
>> All right.
>> So I disappeared and I appeared back in
the country and that is why you have the
lake Maya. So if you don't know, if
you're looking for me, come to this
lake.
>> Yeah.
>> Here.
>> And it's absolutely beautiful. The
locals actually fish in here and also
use it to you know plant their food and
all of that. This is incredible knowing
that the lake disappeared and appear
again.
>> You know there is a song for this lake
since it is disappeared. One artist her
name is Fate right
>> fate. Fate she start singing for the
lake to come back. Okay. So here is the
song.
Now let a real adventure to har for
hyenas begin.
We finally made it to Har. I'm super
excited to be here.
The moment that I entered from the
gates, it felt like I'm in a whole
different new world. You know why? This
is an ascend city of East Africa and
specifically called Jugal right here in
Har. Jugul is only city in East Africa
surrounded with a wall and where people
live with 368
alley wases.
>> What a tiny little alley, bro. Like
imagine if I look at DJ Khaled, I would
definitely not be able to pass in here.
Two people cannot pass here by the way.
>> Are you coming?
>> Yeah.
>> What do I do, man?
>> Like crossing.
>> Crossing.
>> Crossing like that.
>> Yeah.
>> So this alley, you know, in the old city
there are about 368 aliases. Okay.
>> Few of them very narrow. So we call them
peacemaker street. So if two people for
each other and if they meet on this
street they need to talk for making
crisscross. That's how we do now.
>> Yeah.
>> So this is why we call it peacemaker
street.
>> My goodness. 82 moscus three different
religion
and different ethnic group.
People live here peacefully, harmony and
and people born in the old town can
speak three language like his mom tank,
Harari, Afano Romo and Amharik.
>> I guess why the people and the hyenas
are living in peace but not in pieces.
So I guess I'll go home in full.
So our first goal for this morning is to
find the hyena man.
>> You guys live with hyenas.
>> Imagine we live with hyenas like
peacefully for centuries.
>> How?
>> Hey.
Oh, is that the hyena man?
>> We've been looking for this guy for
decades, man. And here is finally the
hyena man.
>> You're going to buy some apples.
>> So, what's up?
>> Potato.
>> No potato, bro.
>> It's like he lost the hyenas, man.
>> You kissing a hyena?
>> Yes.
>> Is that your girlfriend?
>> Yes.
>> How long has he been doing this?
He has been feeding 23 years.
>> Feeding the hyenas for 23 years.
>> His father, he used to feed them for 50
years.
>> She took over from the father.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> So you do this every day?
>> Every day.
>> Every day.
>> Oh, you buy the meat?
>> Yeah.
>> Yourself?
>> Yes.
>> With your own money?
>> Yes.
>> To feed the hyenas? Yes.
>> How much do you spend a day?
>> Lot.
>> A lot. What what kind of meat do you
buy?
>> Camel meat.
>> Camel.
>> Camel meat. Yeah.
>> Okay. They love camel meat.
>> Yeah.
>> This camel meat and the ox depends.
Okay.
>> Yeah. You mix it. Mix it.
>> All that food for hyenas.
That's insane. I guess you you're
feeding over 100 hyenas today.
>> Yeah.
So, we just bought the meat and we are
going to the location where the hyenas
will be fed. But we not going to do the
hyena feeding now. We're going to do the
hyena feeding at night. This is so
exciting and I'm super excited to be
doing this. Woo! What a colorful city,
bro. I love this city, man.
>> So, we are finally here. Oh,
>> this is where
that's the feeding at night.
>> Oh, okay.
So, this is where you do the feeding.
>> Yeah. Yes. That side.
>> And that side.
>> That side. As honey meat is this side.
And tonight
>> you're going to be this side.
>> Yeah. But
>> uh uh this this meat
>> prepare
>> prepare prepare for for uh
>> food for feeding.
>> Yeah. for feeding tonight.
>> Tonight the feeding show.
>> Okay.
>> Yes.
>> So where where are the hyenas? Where are
they?
>> During the day
>> the day is from mountains
>> from mountains.
>> Yeah. 3 km is far.
>> They live 3 km away on the mountains.
>> From mountains. Yeah. And they come to
you every night. Tonight every night
feeding. Yeah. If you come to if you not
come tourist every time is feeding us as
well.
I am super scared because the final
moment is here. I believe that this is
the time that you all have been waiting
for seeing what amaya feeding hyenas.
But let me tell you something, the city
is super bright at night. My goodness.
Like Etopia is really transforming man.
And we don't joke with the bajach
everywhere we go. Hey bajach.
Come along with us. Let's go, bro. Let
the real adventure begin.
>> What is behind us?
>> Behind us there is a hole
>> and that's a hyena entrance to the old
town which called Waraba Nud.
>> Does that mean that you guys live with
hyenas?
>> Yeah, we do.
>> Oh, wow.
>> Peacefully.
>> Peacefully.
>> Are you guys ready? I am not ready. I am
scared, man. What if I become the meat
for the illness tonight?
>> Don't Don't worry. We have very good
hospital in THE TOWN.
>> What the hell? I'm not going anymore.
What?
I have never seen anything like this in
my whole life, man. You know, I've been
seeing this, I thought it was not real,
but being here in person, seeing him
feeding hyenas, hundreds of them, man.
I'm like, this is unbelievable, bro.
Can I ask a question? How did Africans
ended up get colonized?
>> The dude is literally bringing the
leftovers through the hyenas and he's
not scared. Like bunch of hyenas over
there. But jeez,
it's like they've been It's like they
live with them. They're used to them,
man. I can't, bro. I think I'll just
watch him feed the hyenas and just go
home. That's it. That's the That's the
least I can do, man. He literally feeds
wild and vicious hyenas every night.
That's pure black magic, bro.
I have been standing here with a stick
in my mouth for the past 30 minutes. I'm
sorry, man.
I'm not born for this
for adventure,
but just in case
I make up my mind, I'll definitely do
it. But for now, no.
Can't believe I'm doing this.
Oh my goodness.
Yes.
My mouth. Ah, no. For now. No, no, no.
For now. No. No. Not for now, bro.
>> Not for now. Man, no problem.
>> No problem.
>> Yeah.
Hey, take your time, bro. No way. Hey,
hey, hey. It's okay. It's okay.
>> It's okay. It's okay.
>> It's okay.
>> No problem.
Yeah.
>> No. No man.
>> Any time, bro. Yes.
>> That's enough. No.
>> Only with your man.
>> You want to kiss me, bro?
>> No way. Yes.
>> Can I do like this?
>> Yes. Look back. Look back.
>> Ah.
Yeah.
Let's do it. Let's do it.
>> Let's do it.
>> Let's do it.
>> Let's do it.
>> Let's do it. Look at
>> No. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
>> Oh.
>> Does he know you?
>> Yeah.
>> What? He doesn't know me. I'm from
Ghana, man.
>> Oh, he took my steak, bro. Yeah,
>> I take my stick, bro.
It's still gone. Stick is gone.
>> Bro, stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Bro,
>> stop. Stop.
>> Don't with your hand.
>> Yeah.
>> Don't touch.
>> Don't touch. Don't touch your hand.
>> Stick. Yeah.
Oh lord.
>> Were you scared the first time you
decided to feel highness? Were you
scared?
>> Don't scared. I'm hus
>> even whenever they fight each other in
my back. He I never cared of it.
>> Has ever hurt anyone in this village
before?
It never happened in
Asina
in Har never touched anyone this area.
>> Today, feeding hyenas has now simply
become a tourist attraction which
attract thousands of people across the
globe. just to come and have this wild
experience and it's beautiful to see
that it was made possible by the
government of the day.
>> So which means this was built by the
government then
>> was it here before? No restaurants.
He were up there
>> like 200 m away from here. And this is
bu recently by the government and uh
build by the prime minister selling his
books. So where he used to visit
recently
>> the place were not good for the
touristy.
>> Okay.
>> Too much rubbish and too much bones
there. So the prime minister of Ethiopia
Dr. Rabi Ahmed he come to Harat
and he sold the place and were not good
for the tourists. So what he said is so
he just gives the book to sell and get
from the money to build
>> what we see.
Wow.
>> Yeah.
That's it. Video over.
