Everything you need to know before Canucks vs Rangers
1 Video View·Oct 11, 2026
This is everything you need to know
as the Canucks head into New York to face the New York
Rangers. We're going to dive
into multiple updates surrounding the team as Manny Malhotra
makes changes to this lineup.
We get key updates coming through from the organization as they look
to right the ship following a three-game losing streak.
We're going to break down everything you
need to know from line changes,
exactly what Manny Malhotra plans, and the starting goaltender
heading into New York plus
so much more in this episode you're not going to want to miss any of it
but before we get into it want to give a huge shout out
and a quick reminder we're trying to
reach our goal of 10,000 subscribers
so if you haven't hit that free subscribe button yet but
you want to stay up to date with everything
to do around the Canucks make sure to go down and hit
it means the absolute world plus completely free
and you get to stay up to date but let's just go
straight into it where the Canucks are heading
into New York to take on JT Miller and the New
Rangers now of course the Canucks are currently
on a three game slide following their loss to the
New Jersey Devils and with the Canucks wanting
to right the ship the New York Rangers is the
perfect team as of course it's sad to say they're dealing
with goaltender issues and a goalie that's
out for the season but the Rangers
are currently sitting second in the Metro with a four and two
record and the Canucks are heading in now
with a projected lineup of new faces now of course with
the Canucks and looking at the lines there's
a lot of the same as we've seen the top line with
Jake DeBrusk, Pettersson and Jonathan Toews by far
and away the top line within this organization
but again looking at the fourth line Manny Malhotra likes
to keep things a little quiet but when
looking at the updates coming through
from Thomas Trentz it gives us a clear picture on two things
with Otaru leaving the ice early
so it seems like he will be coming in for Arsh Deep Baines
on the fourth line to center the position
and Manny Malhotra wouldn't confirm his lineup but
Kevin Lankinen was the first goaltender off Sunday
and I'm expecting he will start. Now of course
looking at the Canucks there's some changes coming within
of course looking at the defense
Victor Mancini looking as a projected scratch,
Pettersson with Shen, Jamie Oleksiak with Tom
Villander and Ziboim with Filip Paronik
Now the biggest questions sitting around this team or
some of the biggest questions i should say is the production
and the lack of production the
canucks have been getting on the defensive end z boyum's name has
been constantly popping up
but again a very young defender that's
in his second full season in the nhl don't hit the
panic button there's a reason why that guy was a premier piece
and still touted as one of the top
young defensive players in the nhl
but one guy that has been getting his flowers is filip
Peronic and is five points over six games now
of course Filip Paronik has been playing next to
Zeve Boyum on that pairing I'm expecting this group
to finally get it going this pairing and
if not I do expect Manny Malhotra to eventually look
at maybe breaking up the two maybe you want
to see what DPD can do up there demoting Zeve Boyum
but a huge question surrounding this team
is Kevin Lankinen who is set to face the Rangers now
of course with Kevin Lankinen he was credited
of the loss last night
when they played the new jersey devils after coming into the games with
Merrillinh having multiple issues with the blade on his skate
but with vancouver starting kevin
Langen in New York has started Dylan Garand
with that of course she's taking out for the year
looking at the back-to-backs
and what this team is dealing with I understand Merrill Linens has been
by far and away the best goaltender
when it comes to the Canucks out of the two getting two starts
one in those last seven days we can see of course he dealt
with having to leave because of the skate
blade a .929 save percentage but starting the game
and playing the majority all signs are pointing to
Kevin Langen the first off the ice
and a struggling goaltender this is the perfect opportunity for
Kevin Langen to get his feet wet
and feel what the win column feels like and having a good save
percentage and again this relies on the Canucks now looking
at the Canucks the high danger the
medium danger and low danger in every facet Kevin Langen
is facing a fair shot on each 29% which
league average is 25.7 in high danger medium danger
at 33 league average 28 and when it comes
to low danger 37% with the league average being 45 Kevin Langen has
the fifth most allowed in
the NHL when it comes to high danger shots against
and again it falls back onto the Canucks but
Kevin Langen needs to at least at some point bail this team out
because there's going to be
a big goalie controversy once we see Patrick Demko come back
because again Merrill Linens has
been incredible Patrick Demko will be back
and the starting goaltender when he gets between the
pipes and i'm not sure what's going to happen
with Kevin Langen and listen I love Langen
he's been a huge part of our workhorse just snake bit
in the start of the season and fans I want
to know your thoughts, what are your thoughts
on Kevin Lankinen, the third year with the Canucks
progressively a save percentage dropped
at a .902 in its first season and .875 last year
a .792 this year with seven goals against average
which is absolutely absurd, it's not going to stay
like this but I want to know what your guys thoughts
are, what's your thoughts on the New
York Rangers, is there a possibility of a trade
and I'm not linking the two teams but they're
relying on a young goaltender now with Shesterkin out
if they want to get someone that is someone
that's solidified as a workhorse, maybe Kevin Lankinen lines up
a little bit but it's not just
Kevin Lankinen and the defense
but Pettersson needs scoring support now Pettersson has been a man on a
mission he's came out of the gates
and has looked phenomenal since this season started with eight
points over the start of a very amazing season
and I want to dive into this report coming out
where we've seen Adams say something that has became very clear
when listening to Canucks GM
Ryan Johnson is that he understands how
the mental side impacts the player's performance
he used a positive reinforcement
while not going overboard on the praise is very noticeable and by
overboard I'm gonna go overboard on the best player
in the NHL right now of course in Pettersson
over the last five games 1.4 points
per game jumping up 0.4 from his first game the ice time
has risen up the top line results have been incredible
and it falls back on Pedersen and
how he's supported not only Jake DeBrusk
in his limited time up there after missing some time
due to his flu but looking at that line five goals
for one goal against 66 minutes together
the Canucks truly have an incredible top line
and it does fall back on Petey but he cannot be the
only one and that top line cannot be the only line
that's producing if the Canucks want to see
success again falling back
on Brock Boeser fan favorite I love Brock one goal three assists a
minus three for four total points 17
and a half minutes time on ice the Canucks need to get these
lines going it needs to be the second line
the third line down to the fourth giving you the
energy and Brock Boeser heading in versus
the Rangers has had some positive reinforcement
games versus them when looking over
the last five Brock Boeser has registered points in three out
the five games including a three-point game
on January 8th in 2023 this is a team going in that
now wants to get back in the win column make Canucks hockey fun again
and looking at the projections it
is a matter of Jake DeBrusk, Pettersson,
and Elias Pettersson they'll continue their success
Connor Rossi and Carlson looked great Carlson scored
that power play goal but the third line
of Boeser, O'Connor, and Ogrin need to start getting going
and some kind of luck needs to
bounce some way at some point if they want
to do this but looking at this it's not again the
defense the goaltending and some of the forward lines
but the special teams is something to focus
on in this game coming up the Canucks power play
is 16th of 32 in the NHL sitting middle of the
pack when it comes to this the penalty kill
is by far and away the worst in the entire league
fans I want to know your thoughts heading
into this game not only do we want to of course
beat JT Miller and the Vancouver Canucks hopefully he gets Petey
in his back shot or back swing when
he's shooting this is the lineup if you care
to look Marcus Pedersen is playing his former team
that's only former Canuck I care about
when it comes to the New York Rangers because the guy at
second line center screw him
who cares about him let's wish no success for him heading into this
game but I want to know your thoughts cleaner exits
of course is a big part of this secondary
offense traffic and rebounding need to pick up
and fewer penalty minutes tighter coverage i want to
know your guys thoughts on everything with the game
on the Canucks of course the schedule continues
to pick up this is a back-to-back they get
a day break before heading to the islanders long island
facing the panthers after the lightning before returning home
for three games i want to know
your thoughts what is the record going to be in the month
of October, let me know all your thoughts
down in the comments because I love reading
through each and every one of them.
I'll be your host, Mark.
Bye.
Take care, Canucks fans.
Go Canucks go.
And I'll see you in the next one.
