This beautifully textured Deep River Ear Warmer crochet pattern is quick and easy to work with less than 100 yards of yarn!
Just over a year ago I published my popular Deep River Beanie Crochet Pattern and not to long ago I was asked if I had an ear warmer version of the pattern available. At the time, I did not but thought that they are such a great quick and easy project, so why not?
In the Deep River Beanie we already had a great texture to pull from, and it really did make a fabulous ear warmer!
This ear warmer is worked all as one piece in rounds from bottom to top. It's a quick pattern that can be worked in only a couple of hours!
This crochet pattern is available in English only and written using American crochet terms.

Sarah from Rich Textures Crochet demonstrates how to create the Deep River Ear Warmer, a textured accessory adapted from her popular beanie pattern. The project uses worsted weight yarn and a 5mm hook to create a stretchy, stylish band suitable for adults.
Hello everyone I'm Sarah of Rich Textures Crochet and welcome. Today I have a quick and fun project
for you. This is the deep river ear warmer. Not too long ago I had someone reach out
with a request to convert my popular deep river hat or deep river beanie into an ear warmer pattern
so here it is. I like it a lot, it has some stretch to it, it's not too thick and I love
the texture coming through it. So it made for a great ear warmer. Today for the pattern I'm going
to be using a little bit of worsted weight yarn. This is a Heather Lee yarn by Knit Picks. I'll
also be working with a five millimeter crochet hook or an H8 crochet hook. You can find links
to these items in the description of this video. Also down in the description you'll find a direct
link to the free written instructions which you may wish to follow along with and those can be
found on my website at richtexturescrochet.com or again linked in that video in the description.
Also down in the description you'll find a link to my books on Amazon. I have several crochet books
available there now, Crochet Stitches as well as this my latest book Crochet Critters to Love with
20 Crochet Critter Crochet Patterns. It's also down in the description for you to check out.
So thank you so much for joining me. While you're here I invite you to take a look around.
Don't forget to subscribe. This channel is updated every single week with free crochet patterns
and stitch tutorials. Let's grab our hooks and yarn and get started. Now our pattern today is
worked in rounds. We're working a size to fit an adult head with a 20 to 22 inch circumference
and laid flat. The ear warmer measures about 10 inches across by three and a half inches
wide. For the pattern you're only going to need approximately 60 yards for this project or more
if you'd like to make it larger. So we're going to start by making our slip knot.
We're now going to work a foundation chain and for our foundation chain we're going to
chain 72 chains. If you wish to change the size of your ear warmer, the circumference of it,
you're simply going to chain an even number of stitches. So today I'm going to go ahead and chain
72. Once you've worked your 72 chains you're going to want to join with a slip stitch into
the first stitch and when you do so you're going to want to make sure that your chain is not
twisted. So then just join with a slip stitch into that first chain stitch. We're now going
to begin round one and for round one we're going to work a half double crochet into the same
stitches joining. I'm just going to work over my tail here as well. You can see that I'm working
in the back bumps. It's all personal preference. I just like the look of the stitch on the opposite
side. You're then going to half double crochet into each chain all the way around. At the end
of this round you're going to continue to have 72 half double crochet stitches. So half double
crochet in each stitch all the way around. Once you come all the way around at the end of round
one you're going to join with a slip stitch into the top of your first stitch. You'll have a total
of 72 stitches. Now for round two we're going to chain one and continue working in the same
direction. For round two you're going to be working in the third loop all the way around
and work a half double crochet into each stitch. To find your third loop you're going to look at
the top of your stitch first. You have a front loop that is closest to you, a back loop that is
furthest away and then if you look at the back of your stitch you'll see a loop that's running along
under that back loop. This is your third loop so we're going to work into this loop only.
Beginning in the same stitches joining in the third loop only, half double crochet
and then half double crochet into the third loop of each stitch all the way around.
At the end of round two you're going to join with a slip stitch into the top of your first stitch
and you'll have this nice ridge of texture here running along. We're going to work in the third
loop for one more round so for round three we're going to chain one, continue working in the same
direction and you're going to work double crochets into the third loop of each stitch all the way
around. So beginning in that same stitches joining double crochet in the third loop and then double
crochet in the third loop of each stitch around all the way around until you come back to your
first stitch. At the end of round three you're going to join with a slip stitch into the top
of your first double crochet stitch. That chain one does not count as a stitch. You're then going
to chain one and at this time you are going to turn your work. We're now going to work a round
of slip stitches. Now this round of slip stitches is simply to provide a little bit more texture
and to keep the stitches lining up on top of one another. So what you're going to do is you're just
going to slip stitch into that next stitch and then slip stitch into each stitch all the way around.
When you come back to your first stitch you're going to join with a slip stitch
into the top of your first slip stitch. I am here at the end of my round four
joining with a slip stitch into the top of that first stitch then chain one and turn your work.
We're now going to work some more texture in our hat and what we're going to do is we're going to
begin row five first by chain uh we've already chained one first by working a front post double
crochet around the post of the next double crochet stitch two rounds below. So you'll remember we
worked these slip stitches so two rounds below we have a double crochet we're not working in this
first one yet we're going to work into this next double crochet stitch. Yarn over bring your hook
in front of your work and insert it around from front around back and out through the front again
around the post of that next double crochet yarn over draw up a loop yarn over and pull through
two loops yarn over and pull through two more that's your front post double crochet. We're now
going to work in behind the stitch that we just worked and we're going to work a double crochet
into this skipped slip stitch of this previous round. So just double crochet into the top
into that slip stitch that we skipped earlier it's just a plain double crochet stitch.
We're now going to skip the next stitch which is right here and we're going to front post
double crochet around the post of the next double crochet two rounds below then double crochet back
into the skipped slip stitch. You're going to repeat this all the way around skip the next
stitch and then front post double crochet around the post of the next double crochet
two rounds below then double crochet back into the skipped stitch. Skip the next stitch
front post double crochet around the post of the next and double crochet back into the skipped
slip stitch. Repeat this all the way around. So I'm here at the end of my round five working my
final front post double crochet and then double crochet. You're then going to finish the round by
working a slip stitch into the top of that first front post double crochet, chain one and turn
your work. We're now going to slip stitch into that first stitch and into each stitch all the
way around until you come back to your first stitch and then join with a slip stitch into the
top. At the end of round six join with a slip stitch into the top of the first stitch, chain one,
turn your work. We're now going to work some more front post double crochet stitches and this time
we're again working under the double crochet stitches two rounds below but you'll see them
tucked in behind your front post double crochets two rounds below. So you might have to kind of
search for it a little bit there but you're going to begin round seven by working a, by skipping
that first stitch, work a front post double crochet around the double crochet two rounds below
followed by your double crochet stitch into the skipped stitch, the skipped slip stitch above.
Skip the next stitch, front post double crochet around the post of the next stitch two rounds
below and then double crochet back into the skipped stitch. Skip the next stitch,
front post double crochet and double crochet back into that skipped stitch. You're going to repeat
this all the way around until you come to your first stitch then join with a slip stitch into
the top and then for rounds eight and nine you're going to repeat that round six and seven. So for
rounds eight and nine repeat round six and seven and then meet me back here. Again if you'd like
to follow along or see this written out head over to richtexturescrochet.com it's linked in the
description of this video and there you will find the free written instructions. I'll meet you back
here at the end of round nine. At the end of round nine this is what your work is going to look like
from the beginning. At the end of round nine you will not turn your work we're going to continue
working in the same direction from here on end. For round 10 you're going to chain one
and simply work one half double crochet into your same stitches joining
and then half double crochet into each stitch all the way around. At the end of round 10 join
with a slip stitch into the top of your first stitch, continue working in the same direction,
chain one. For round 11 we're going to work in the third loop all the way around
and you'll be working a half double crochet into the third loop of that same stitches joining
and then half double crochet into the third loop of each stitch all the way around. At the end of
round 11 join with a slip stitch into the top of your first stitch, chain one, continue working in
the same direction and for round 12 you're going to work one single crochet into the third loop
of the same stitches joining and then single crochet into the third loop of each stitch
all the way around until you come back to your first stitch. At the end of round 12 you're going
to join with a slip stitch into the top of your first stitch and your deep river ear warmer is now
complete. So you can fasten off and then you're just going to take your yarn needle,
thread that little tail through and then tuck in your end. Trim off any remaining tails,
turn your ear warmer right side out and it's ready to be enjoyed. So thank you so much for
joining me. Once again I invite you to take a look around. Don't forget to subscribe,
