This one character refers to year. 一年 yī nián means one year. Again, 一 yī means one and 年 nián means year. So 一年 yī nián is one year. 两年 niǎng nián, two years. 三年 sān nián, three years. And this is how we count the number of years. Simply add the number in front of the character 年 nián, and that's it. And now we're going to look at something a little different, but also related to a year. 去年 qù nián means last year. 去年 qù nián 今年 jīn nián, this year. 今年 jīn nián 明年 mí nián, next year. 明年 mí nián And now let's look at the sentence together. 今年是二零二五年 jīn nián shì èr líng èr wǔ nián 今年 jīn nián means this year. 是 shì refers to is. 二零二五年 èr líng èr wǔ nián means the year 2025. 今年是二零二五年 jīn nián shì èr líng èr wǔ nián One thing to note here, while 去年 qù nián means last year, 昨天 zuó tiān means yesterday.
